The Conair Unbound Auto Curler had me shooting video at a preview before I was even aware I'd held up my iPhone and pressed record. In practically the same instant I'd spotted it in action, I rushed over to watch Potrus, senior hairstylist at Donato Salon & Spa in Missisauga, demonstrate.

If you're familiar with the Conair Curl Secret or Babyliss Curl Secret or Miracurl stying tools, you'll recognize the technology. But the Unbound design – that should make your heart skip a beat as it did mine. It's so sleek, and travel-friendly, and it's part of a new cordless collection of Conair stylers that promise to be more effective and efficient than cordless stylers of yore.

The tote-sized Conair Unbound Cordless Rechargeable Auto Curler features a ceramic curl chamber that heats up to 400ºF and has 3 heat settings. Four timer settings – 6, 8, 10 and 12 seconds – allow variations in the tightness of the curls, and "left," "right" and "mix" makes alternating curl direction for a more blessed-by-nature effect a breeze.

Recharging the Conair Unbound Auto Curler (via USB) takes 4.5 hours and results in 60 minutes of use. Safety features include a 15-minute auto shut-off and a heat-resistant pouch once you're finished.

And obviously the Unbound Auto Curler is an ideal size to tuck into your desk drawer so you can style your hair after work before heading out to all those festive shindigs this coming holiday season...

how to use the conair unbound auto curler

In this video (shot spur-of-the-moment at a preview), Potrus curls model Alexis Lopez's dry hair in 1/2-inch to 1-inch sections, and demonstrates that the Unbound Auto Curler can create defined curls even in previously flat-ironed hair. He places the section in the curl chamber, then presses and holds the start button until a final beep.

Note: Potrus advises against using styling products in the hair before curling so as to keep the Conair Unbound Auto Curler unit clean. Instead, he says, use hairspray to lock the style in once you've finger-combed or shaken out the curls the way you like them. (Remember hairspray?? Hands up if it's been forever since you've used the stuff!)
