If you don't know who Donté Colley is yet, you don't spend much time on Instagram or any other social media. That's okay – Instagram especially can be a major time suck and (allegedly) make you hate your life. But not if you follow @donte.colley, a 21-year-old Toronto-based university student dubbed "Motivational Dancing Guy" by Buzzfeed. And if you follow Ariana Grande or Halle Berry or Jennifer Garner or Will Sasso or Leslie Jones or Will Smith on social media, you already know how Donté's feed has blown UP since January this year, and why:
Aside from celebrity Insta-reposts, shows such as "Busy Tonight" and "Good Morning America" have featured Donté and his dance-emojii moves, as has CNN, and Canadian programs such as "ETalk," "Entertainment Tonight Canada," "The Social" and more. He's even appeared on a morning show in Australia.
In addition to attending the University of Guelph Humber for digital communications, Donté works part-time at clothing retailer Aritzia in Toronto. Since January, though, his résumé has expanded to include work for some big names, such as Rihanna's Savage x Fenty label.
Donté's campaign with Hershey's Canada for their Hershey's Gold 100th Anniversary is rolling out now, and includes digital billboards in Toronto and Montreal. And look, here he is in a new music video by Ariana Grande and Victoria Monét for "Monopoly."
But what does this Donté Colley, soon to be 22, have to do with Tips Nail Bar in Toronto? If you know how much we love Tips, you've likely already figured it out. Donté has an equally awesome mum: Leeanne Colley, Tips' owner and Canada's top nail expert. (Leeanne's worked with Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera, Olivia Wilde, Anna Kendrick and more, and she has the best team of phenomenal nail artists.)
I know this post is a bit different from the usual Beautygeeks fare. I wrote it partly because Donté is just lovely – many Tips patrons have met him at the salon over the years, plus he should win an award for Best Hugger – and it's wonderful to see someone so deserving enjoying such good things along with such success. But mostly it's because I wanted to tell you Leeanne is his mum. *grin*
