The Lipstick League wants to know what you think of the whole metallic lip trend that started up a while back and still seems to be a bit of a thing.
Me? No thanks. Do not love. Is that because I prefer a natural makeup look? Maybe.
I can appreciate beautifully, artfully applied makeup even if the look isn't natural. Some Instagram makeup amazes me, although I'd never wear it like that. So I can appreciate, in a completely separate-from-me way, a look that incorporates metallic lips, or even a shot of like the opening image of ColourPop Ultra Metallic Lip in Man Eater.
But I don't like the look on me, no thank you. I don't think the metallic finish actually enhances the lips or the whole look of the face – I put it in the too-much-artifice or "special effects" file. Metallic on the lips can be ageing, particularly in a darker shade. (Man Eater is a medium/deep bronze and has a rosy pink sheen that is very pretty, but I still think the metallic is overpowering.)
I do think this particular lip shade and finish together are beautiful; I'm tempted by it. This is Colourpop Ultra Glossy Lip in My Jam, a shimmery and metallic gloss. I'm pretty sure I like it because the shine as well as the apricot gold shade are a youthful-effect pairing, and the "metallic" is more of a shimmer with a side of delicate sparkle. I can appreciate a variety of beautifully done looks on a face, but I love anything that enhances, that makes the complexion overall look fresh, youthful, radiant and healthy. My Jam looks like it would do that.
