This week the Lipstick League wants to know: what new nail colours excite you right now? That's a bit of a trick question for me because, as most of you are aware, I'm a soak-off-gel girl through and through, and have been since 2010 when I first interviewed Canada's leading nail expert Leeanne Colley, owner of Tips Nail Bar, for a newspaper story on buzz-worthy manicure trends and shades.
Still, I have to say I've really been enjoying the indie polishes our Manigeek's been geeking out over in the last several months, especially those from Pahlish and Girly Bits. Their shades and finishes are amaaazing, and so much more interesting than what we've been seeing (or are still seeing) from mainstream brands.
The shots I've included in this post are some of my very favourite indies from all the shades my sis has swatched. Pahlish Ten Lords a Leaping is so, so, so up my manicure alley. It jives with the silvery shades I gravitate toward normally, and stands out with its brilliant, cool taupe-y shimmer. Just beautiful.
This is such a pretty and vibrant jelly pink – I want it in a gloss too, although perhaps with a touch less shimmer and glitter. But as a nail shade, the sparkle and shine of Pahlish's Gumdrop Mountains is perfection.
I'm not normally a purple-nails kind of girl, but I have a big ol' crush on this gorgeous rich shade, The Lovers by Pahlish. Imagine it in an empty-chevron mani – I die.
I can't even with this stunning shade and finish. Girly Bits Slay, Ghoul, Slay totally slays me. Adore. A lot, a lot, a lot. *swoon*
I'm not a bronze girl either, but this Turducken by Girly Bits has turned my head. So pretty.
I don't think I've ever worn green on my nails. But as you can see, Girly Bits What the El? isn't just green. That shift and sparkle – seriously, what are you mainstream nail brands doing while all this is going on? Sleeping maybe?
If soak-off-gel versions of these shades existed, they'd be in my manicure rotation right now. A girl can dream, though, right? #maybesomeday
