Pardon the clichéd phrasing, but I couldn't resist. We're talking fragrance, by the way...

The Lipstick League wants to know: what fragrance are you wearing most right now?

Ordinarily, my response wouldn't be much different from what I'd have answered last Fall or even the Spring before that: I wear my favourites, such as Hermès Terre d'Hermès or Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine or Byredo Sunday Cologne or Le Labo Bergamote 22 (except that I still have to replenish this one), year-round.

But right now I'm in the honeymoon phase with a new-to-me fragrance, another scent from Atelier Cologne: Poivre Electrique (it launched in 2016). I tried a bit on my wrist at a media preview of the new Atelier Cologne boutique at Yorkdale Mall in Toronto a couple of weeks ago, and an hour later shelled out for the 30 mL bottle (that location's first sale, it turns out).

Like each of my favourites, Atelier Cologne Poivre Electrique (from $160 CAD at and $130 USD from makes my very molecules sing and dance in happiness when I wear it. A unisex fragrance like most of Atelier Cologne's scents, Poivre Electrique is a crisp, clean and spicy blend of bitter orange, black pepper and pink pepper as the opening notes, a heart of incense, pimento leaf and Turkish rose absolue, and a woody base of myrhh, cedar and sandalwood.

A sniff from the bottle might make you think it's more a men's scent than unisex, but that's the kind of fragrance that works best with my chemistry, which tends to make everything sweeter. My skin makes feminine florals and already-sweet types sickly, but adds a subtle softness and warmth to compositions like Poivre Electrique without altering its fresh, peppery energy. Adore, adore, adore. ADORE.
