Ooooh! Essie Winter 2017 swatches? Okay! From the Canadian press release, it looks like this might be a hybrid winter/holiday collection, inspired by “the incomparable party atmosphere of New Year’s Eve.” There’s a noticeable lack of in-your-face bling, but instead there's tidy, classic sophistication.
I actually don’t have much to say about Essie Winter 2017 except that the formulas here are absolute aces. It feels like a long time since I’ve loved painting with Essie and even with the skinny brushes we get here in Canada, this stuff all went on splendidly in 2 easy coats.
essie winter 2017 collection swatches & review
Essie Suit & Tied – Winter 2017 (above). I painted this on a whole bunch of times trying to find the right light and every single time I swatched it, it was just love. Not my usual shade wheelhouse, but it goes on so beautifully and finishes with such shine, I actually fell into the love.
Essie Social-Lights w top coat – Winter 2017 (above). This thing is gorgeous! It’s got a good whack of copper-red shifting shimmer in a grey base, and while it’s reminiscent of Pahlish Thistle, it’s actually very different. Same general idea though.
Essie Social-Lights – Winter 2017 (above). Here she is topless, and I think I like her better this way. Without top, she’s just feels more soft and dreamy to me.
Essie Social-Lights Speed Swatchin' (above). Even wit dat skinny brush, she goes on like magic!
Color Club Femme Fatale over Essie Social-Lights – Winter 2017 (above). And if you need even more pinky-red shimmerz, slap on that Color Club top coat!
Essie Be Cherry! – Winter 2017 (above). I know it looks red, and in most light it is. In some light though, it shows like a seriously crimson pink. And did I mention the formulas? They’re whack! So good!
Essie Ring In The Bling – Winter 2017 (above). This right here is my second favourite shade of the 6. It’s a melty-looking golden ruby that’s shot with a whack of blue. Again, I like the softness of it without top coat so I left it topless.
Essie Ring in the Bling Speed Swatchin' (above). See what I mean about the application? Huh?
Essie New Year, New Hue – Winter 2017 (above). I’d love to say all kinds of great things about this shade, but really, what can I say that you can’t see from the photo, right? Yes, it dries down darker than the bottle shade, and yes, I had to add a bunch of thinner, but the end result was 2 coats to get this rich, deep plum-berry. Did I top coat? Nope. It’s that shiny all by itself!
Essie On Your Mistletoes – Winter 2017 (above). Essie calls this a “dense oxford blue” but to me, it leans a little more toward teal blue. Application was smooth in 2 coats and the shine… so good!
And that’s your Essie Winter 2017, friends! Now we should chat! Let’s chat! What grabs you, huh? What’s going on your #GimmeThat list?
Oh! And if you’re in the US, the Essie Gel Couture Winter 2017 collection is at Ulta.com. I’m trying to find out if it’ll make it to Canada but it ain’t lookin’ good.
