Hi! It’s me! Fancy meeting you here! I’m glad you stopped by today ‘cause today, it’s all about the China Glaze My Little Pony Collection! Before you get too excited, I only bought 12 ( you can get 'em from Sparkle! He's got 'em in stock!) and didn't buy the duo pack. But after playing in these, I might go back for it!
china glaze my little pony collection swatches & review
I pre-date the My-Little-Pony era so these names (and colours) don’t mean as much to me as they might to you. But then again, I never really focus on themes – for me it’s generally more about shades, formulas, and application. So, MLP fans, wanna see if there’s any nostalgia in here for you?
China Glaze Kill ‘Em With Kindness – My Little Pony Collection 2017 (above). I always start with the palest shades, so here you go! It’s 2 coats of banana cream pie! Oh yes, you read that right – 2 coats. How? With zero pressure and lotsa quick and even swipes up the nail. If you can manage to load your brush just right, it’ll level and you’ll get what I got. I know, right? Kind of mind-blowing for just 2 coats.
China Glaze Cutie Mark The Spot – My Little Pony Collection 2017 (above). When brushes are cut evenly, it makes my job so much easier and infinitely more enjoyable! This brush was not even. Having said that, it’s not terrible – it just means I can’t use my regular brush-smush, push-pull, thin-coat technique. So how many coats? 3.
China Glaze One Polished Pony – My Little Pony Collection 2017 (above). It's got little shimmery-shimmerz! That’s 3 coats, but if you’re not as neurotic as I am, you can probably get away with 2. I had issues with level down the sidewalls and should maybe have slapped top coat on because that would have evened it out some. *shrug*
China Glaze Sweet as Pinkie Pie – My Little Pony Collection 2017 (above). In terms of The Archives, this isn’t anything new, but in terms of My Little Pony, it’s a very sweet pink – like a sugary strawberry milkshake pink! You’ll need to watch for gravity and you’ll probably need to do 3 coats because the formula is a little thin. If I had more time, I might have left the bottle open overnight to see if I could thicken it up some. Oh! And it dries down just a little darker than it looks in the bottle.
China Glaze Applejack of my Eye – My Little Pony Collection 2017 (above). Again, not a particularly ground-breaking shade. but the formula here is swell. It’s a touch thin but if you don’t overload your brush, you’ll get wonderful even coverage in 2 very quick coats.
China Glaze Where’s The Party Canon At? over Applejack of my Eye (above). Yep, a sheer plumberry jelly with a whack of holo-fettis for super-twinkle in the sun. Slap a top over top of the top to make it smooooth, k? Oh, that’s one coat of Party over my Applejack.
China Glaze She’s a Mane-iac – My Little Pony Collection 2017 (above). This shimmery summery neon pink dries matte and took me 3 coats to erase all visible nail lines. I know, 3 coats. But they dry quickly on account of the matte-ness. Also because of the matte-ness, you’ll want to let each coat dry before doing the next or you’ll pull up the coats underneath.
China Glaze She’s A Mane-iac w Top Coat (above). What happens if you add a quick coat of top? That.
China Glaze Where’s The Party Canon At? over She’s a Mane-iac (above). And then, if you shoot a coat of your Party Canon at it, this happens. So fun!
China Glaze Where's The Party Canon At? - My Little Pony Collection 2017 (above). That's 3 thin coats of The Party Canon. Yes, I used 3 because I do thin coats. Could I have done it in 2 thicker ones? Sure, but I get better control over a polish (and the dry time is faster) if I use thin coats - it's just the way I roll.
China Glaze I Sea Ponies – My Little Pony Collection 2017 (above). Yep, it's a mainstream silver holo! Is it special? Sure! I mean, it’s a mainstream silver holo! But is it a strong linear holo? Nope, but it’s there. And did I mention it’s widely available and silver linear holo? I think I did. But is it really special if you already have silver linear holos in your Archives? Nerp. But… it's a linear silver MLP holo!
China Glaze I Just Canterlot over I Sea Ponies – My Little Pony Collection 2017 (above). Yay, sparkles!! Girly, rainbow sparkles! Don’t let the bottle trick you though, k? It’s all those holo sparkles in a purple tinted jelly base. That’s one coat of the purple over my I Sea Ponies. Can you build the purple by itself? Sure! Did I? Sure!
China Glaze I Just Canterlot – My Little Pony Collection 2017 (above & below). It’s exactly what you thought it would be, right? That’s 3 thin coats (plus a juicy top coat because the glitter ends up textured) to get you what I got.
The little girl in me is so giddy with rainbow happiness that she hasn’t even considered how much not-so-fun this is going to be to remove! Oooh! I just had an idea!
China Glaze I Just Canterlot vs Cutex Twist & Scrub Sponge (above). It’s the new Cutex scrubbie sponge for the win!!
China Glaze Too Busy Being Awesome – My Little Pony Collection 2017 (above). This is SO not colour accurate. I tell ya what, my camera and/or computer don’t recognize this shade – at all. Is it close to this? Sorta. It’s more peacock blue in real life though. Brighter and much more eye-searing. And beautiful. And very, very similar to I Truly Azure You (from the China Glaze Summer Reign Collection). That one has shimmer and is a little bit darker, but they’re similar enough that I don’t need both. Oh – 2 coats.
China Glaze Let Your Twilight Sparkle over Too Busy Being Awesome (above). Oooh! Lookit that delicate little bluey-purple flash! So pretty! So not new! But do we care? Nope. Why? Because it’s pretteh!!! That’s one coat of the Twilight by the way. And can you build it by itself? I wouldn't. it's sheer and works much better as a top coat.
China Glaze Hay Girl Hay! over Revlon Black Magic (above). And finally, this. That’s 1 coat of Hay over black. I know, right? Who’da thought it would be greeeen! Wheeeeee!!!
So there you go, nail polish friends! Now that you’ve seen the stuff I bought, what do you think? Anything there grab you because you’re a secret My Little Pony nerd? Or does anything there just grab you? Let’s chat!
Right - the duo I didn't buy (above) There's still time for me to get it though!
Manicures & Photos Karen Falcon ( yes, there's sunlit grass because it helps pop sparkles. RNK has me calling those "salad shots" because we all know how much I love salad).
