Holy excitements! It’s the Essence Out of Space Stories Collection that my friend Angela sent me – all the way from The Netherlands! I’ve had my eyeballs on these bottles for a good few months and a little while ago, they showed up in the most massivest Nail Mail Swap of everrr.
The collection is 7 shades in Europe and 6 shades in the US and Canada. More on that later. Now, let’s look at #AngelasAirMail!
essence out of space stories swatches & review
Essence Outta Space is the Place – Out of Space Stories Collection (above). Huh. If I really look at this, it appears there’s some of that green shimmer in here that seems to be making the rounds. This time, instead of being stuffed into a grey, it’s jammed into a pale princess pink.
Essence Outta Space is the Place – Out of Space Stories Collection (above). You know what? Whoever made this clearly did what I would have done. What would I have done? Well I’d have been all “Hey! Let’s put some green stuff in there! Hey! Let’s put even MOAR green stuff in there! Yeah! That’s it!” I’m so in love with this thing I can’t even tell you. An iridescent pearly green pink. Amaze.
Essence We Will Spock You over Space is the Place (above). Ooooh! Is that a holo coat? Yes, yes it is. I slapped it over my pearly green pink in the hopes it would be sheer enough to use as a top. Sadly, it isn’t. It’s fairly full of ultra-fine holo but it isn’t particularly strong and, over pink, a bit underwhelming, methinks. No matter, even though unicorns don’t come flying out of it, it’s still pretty, right?
Essence Space Glam – Out of Space Stories Collection (above). Gah! I forgot to take notes for this one! Probably because I lost my mind at how totally awesome it is! If I recollect, that’s 3 coats because it’s a little sheer. She builds really well, and if you build it, you get the silvery-greeny-bluey flashy-foilness. I love her. I’m keeping her forever. And ever. Angela, if you’re reading this, a million thank yous!
Essence Across The Universe – Out of Space Stories Collection (above). Once again, a 3-coater but sometimes 3 is okay – especially when it gets you to a beautiful shifty finish like this one does. Yes, it dries down with visible streaks but that’s part of what I find vastly appealing. It’s such an old school kind of duo! My love for duochromes goes waaaaay back and I can’t even begin to count how many shades in this particular wheelhouse I have hiding in The Archives. Dearest Angela, a million more thank yous!
Essence Across the Universe (above). Shift this way and lookit the rosy grapeness with a touch of blue-green-grey. Gah!! #GimmeThat!
Essence Intergalactic Adventure – Out of Space Stories Collection (above). I can’t even. For realz – I don’t even have words, only giant heart eyes.
Essence We Will Spock You over Intergalactic Adventure (above). Oooh! If I slap a coat of the holo stuff over the shifty blue, I get a much better rainbow. It’s not a punch-in-the-eye kind of rainbow but it’s there!
Essence We Will Spock You – Out of Space Stories Collection (above). Blarg. That’s 3 coats of the holo stuff – straight up and indoors. I see nuthin’ except a melted kind of silver polish with potential. Pretty, sure. But also excruciatingly ho-hum.
Essence We Will Spock You – Out of Space Stories Collection (above). Then, if I stick my hand out the window, I get sparkles! Do I get enough sparkles to satisfy my craving for rainbows? No. The holo in here is subtle, even in direct sunlight. I tried really hard to get unicorns and rainbows to come soaring out of it, but I failed. Maybe Canadian sun just isn’t magical enough to bring the genie out of this here bottle?
Essence Beam Me Up! – Out of Space Stories Collection (above). I’m head over heels in love with this bottle. There’s something about this shade with those little tiny speckly bits in it that speaks right to my cold, cold polish heart. There’s a tiny sprinkling of holo bits in here too and I think they’re too shy to come out and play. Do I care? No. I love this thing exactly as it shows right here. I love it. Wait… did I mention I love it? Oh – right – 2 coats with no top.
Essence 1000 Light Years Away – Out of Space Stories Collection (above). This is the only shade that’s not available in Canada (and the US). And that’s not really such a terrible thing because out of all 7 shades in this collection, this is the only one that does zero things for me. That’s 3 coats with no top and natural light. In my estimation, it’s kinda unsophisticated.
Essence 1000 Light Years Away w Top Coat (above). Okay, whew! That’s definitely better! Top coat really smoothes it out and gives it some necessary shine. Top coat also makes it look like space – you know, the final-frontier kind of space!
Essence 1000 Light Years Away w Top Coat and Direct Sun (above). Huzzah! Rainbow bits!
That’s it. Sadly, we are now at the end of our Out of Space Stories journey. All I can say is that I feel SO incredibly lucky to have a polish-swappin’ friend in The Netherlands. When I first saw this collection on Instagram, I was heart-broken to think I’d never get to play in them. And then, surprise!! NailzMailz! Best.Ever.
If you’re in Canada or the US and you’re looking at the first 6 bottles and wishing like crazy that you could get some too, uh… you can. They’re fairly inexpensive and available online from essencemakeup.ca and essencemakeup.com. OMSqueeeeee!!! You gonna shop? You gonna buy? Huh? And before you decide to shop, here – a speedy swatch!
