CLARINS SUMMER 2017 SUNKISSED MAKEUP
Every year I look forward to the annual gorgeous bronzer + blush compact Clarins releases. The 2017 Sunkissed limited-edition version does not disappoint. The packaging, embossing, shades – the whole collection is sun-warmed, and goes well with white linen, soft-sand beaches, impossibly blue skies and ocean waves.
You see the orange tones, right? I have to admit that eyeshadow shade is a challenge for me. I don't often wear warm colour. But it looks so gorgeous in the Clarins beauty image that I have to try. When I figure out an application I like, I'll add a selfie to this post.
I've realized something: I don't have the lippie from this collection with me. (I'm writing this from St. Maarten.) Instead of the Clarins Lip Balm Perfector in Orange ($26 USD at nordstrom.com), I've brought the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in Juicy Mandarin. It's a new shade for 2017, and works with this range, but #oops.
On the other hand, the Lip Balm Perfector in Orange isn't limited edition; everything else in this post (other than a Make Up For Ever pencil I snuck in) will be on counter until it's sold out.
Here are more casual snaps of the collection, taken mostly on the beach at the Cupecoy Beach Club, on the southwest tip of St. Maarten, the Dutch side. (Fun fact: the north end of the beach is clothing-optional.)

Clarins Summer 2017 Bronzer & Blush compact, eyeshadow compact, waterproof liners in Gold and Copper
In keeping with past incarnations, the 2017 Clarins Bronzer & Blush Compact ($42 CAD at thebay.com and $40 USD at macys.com) has three beautifully embossed bronzer shades and a blush; this year they're arranged in a setting-sun design. The bronzers – light, medium, medium/dark, I'd say – are velvety matte, luminous, not flat.
The blush in the compact is an iridescent coral, very pretty and sheer.
In the press material, Clarins highlights that the Bronzer & Blush compact's formula contains an anti-pollution complex that includes white tea and nipplewort extracts. As well, the powder provides a defence against moisture loss, although how much you have to put on to get that benefit is unclear.
Orange is the attention-grabbing shade in the Clarins Summer 2017 eyeshadow palette ($45 CAD at thebay.com and $43 USD at macys.com). The others are a matte beige, a shimmery gold, and satin-finish brown.
I don't really do bold eyeshadow, so I need to work with that orange a bit to find a look I like on myself. But I think that nowadays, more women than ever are comfortable with vivid eye makeup. Clarins tends to skew a little older than 20-somethings though, so they've included a card with a bold look on one side and a more restrained look on the other.
Out of the whole Clarins Sunkissed collection, I'm most likely to use up the Waterproof Eye Pencils in Gold and in Copper ($27 CAD at thebay.com and $26.50 USD at macys.com).
I love me a gold eyeliner. I thought my Make Up For Ever Aqua XL pencil in ME-42 was a dupe for the Clarins Waterproof Eye Pencil in Gold, but as seen in the above photo on the right, it's not. The Clarins gold eye pencil is a hint warmer. (And the Waterproof Eye Pencil in Copper is the third swatch.)
The Clarins Summer 2017 collection is already available in the US at macys.com; it hits counters in Canada on May 1st. Online, look to thebay.com and clarins.ca.
Also launching May 1st are two new Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector shades: Juicy Mandarin (see above) and Pink Grapefruit (#grabbyhands).
Do you usually indulge when the Clarins Summer makeup collections come out? What do you think of this year's collection?
