Hey! Check it out! It’s an 8-shade collection of neutrals from Essie! It’s called the Essie Wild Nudes 2017 Collection and it’s set to launch May 16, 2017. Or, now, maybe? I dunno… All I know is that today, I can show you da swatches! Yay!

Here’s the thing… this isn’t exactly a collection of nudes, but they ARE neutrals. What’s the difference? Well, a nude is a fairly flat shade that generally runs in the skin tone family: the ivory, beige, tan or brown sort of arena. A neutral though (in terms of colours in/or against the skin) can be anything that’s found in the skin tone. That can mean peach, plum, rose, and yes, olive.
You’re lookin’ at 2 coats for all of these, and most of them dry down a little darker than what you see from the bottle. And the shiny? Fanfreakintastic! I think most people will probably be able to pick at least a couple of these and have them complement their skin tone very, very well.
And you know what? Anyone who has little nails will find these formulas an absolute joy to work with. The stuff went on my pinky nails perfectly!
After that, not so much. But I’m a polish brush-smusher, and these bottles have sticky formulas and skinny brushes. In order to get the kind of coverage my OCD requires, I generally push and pull polish around on my nail using pressure on the brush to achieve even coats and level. Gaps at the cuticles or spaces down my sidewalls make me nuts - I just can’t tolerate ‘em. Couple the necessity for full coverage with a skinny Essie brush and a heavily plasticized formula, and I’m pretty much screwed.
How did I solve the problem? Well for some stuff, I added thinner. A lot of thinner. For other stuff, I simply switched out the brush and used my trusty OPI Pro-wide. The Pro-wide covers a much larger surface area faster and in far fewer strokes. I envy the UK and their wider Essie paddle brushes.
But hey, for a Must Have Colour, it’s really no hardship for me to add 6-8 drops of thinner, shake stuff for 4 minutes in my ProShaker, and then give it an overnight rest on my desk before I can get it on looking perfect in 2 easy coats.
And because I’m not particularly good at picking neutrals for myself, I’m sorta trilled that Essie has taken all the guesswork out and given me a collection that for the most part, looks pretty great on mah digits!
So? You gonna? Any of ‘em grab you?
Me? Hand over the last 4 and nobody will get hurt.
