Stunning Janelle Monae is yet another of my favourites from the 2017 Academy Awards glam fest. I think it's also my favourite red-carpet look for her so far. I've always liked her distinctive style, a striking blend of high fashion and whimsy; this look fits right in with a side of magic princess and a sprinkling of sexy.
To give Janelle's already pretty skin that beautiful, bronze-goddess radiance, her makeup artist Jessica Smalls mixed Covergirl TruBlend Bronzer in Bronze with Janelle's moisturizer as part of her skin prep. Later she sculpted Janelle's cheeks with Covergirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer in Ebony Bronze to amp up her glow.
For the lips Jessica chose a peachy nude tone that enhances without taking the focus from Janelle's full brows (according to this Billboard.com interview, Jessica spent 20 minutes perfecting them), lushly-lashed eyes, and spectacular, intricately embellished gown. She lined and filled in Janelle's lips with Covergirl LipPerfection Liner in Smoky and topped it with Covergirl All Day Color & Gloss in Profound Peach. (The shade isn't available in Canada; try mixing Coral Crave and Nude Intensity.)
And seriously, that wonderfully gamine pixie cut – it's charming and confident, and all the good things with that jewelled band.
Let's also enjoy the amazing Alexandre Vauthier gown (and another exquisite head band) Janelle changed into for the Vanity Fair after party: she so slayed! And she had a lot to celebrate: she appeared in Hidden Figures, which was nominated for 3 awards, and she's in Moonlight, which won Best Picture.
So, what are your thoughts? What do you think of Janelle's makeup and hair here? And have you seen Hidden Figures or Moonlight?
