TARAJI P HENSON'S OSCARS 2017 MAKEUP
Taraji P Henson is one of my red-carpet beauty favourites. Her makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff loves colour and shine and drama, but not at the expense of her client's natural beauty. "Makeup should enhance your natural beauty and balance out skin imperfections," she says. "I do not believe makeup should wear you or alter your face completely. I'm not a naturalist, but I am all for enhancing natural beauty – not masking and rebuilding a new face."
Here's the rundown of the skincare and makeup Ashunta used for Taraji P's Oscars 2017 red-carpet look:
skin prep
- Dermaflash, a tool inspired by Dermaplaning – our Liza (LEEZA) Herz reports on it here – to remove facial hair/peach fuzz (seems a lot like a razor, which makes me worry about the regrowth... has any of you tried one?)
- Kate Somerville Goat Milk De-Puffing Eye Balm
- Kate Somerville DermalQuench Liquid Lift Advanced Wrinkle Treatment
- Farsali 24 Karat Rose Gold Elixir
- Glossier Priming Moisturizer ("...helps to hold makeup in place and gives a natural radiance to the skin")
- Burt's Bees Shea Butter Lip Balm
on the face
- Perfect Blend by Ashunta Sheriff Beauty in Tan ("a buildable foundation that has built-in technology that masks skins imperfections without looking heavy.")
- MAC Mineralize Concealer in NC40 under eyes and on brow bone
- Dermablend Oil Control Blotting Powder applied with a Surratt Beauty Powder Brush ("...almost like a Kabuki brush with a handle for better control, and the hairs are super soft and fluffy.")
- St. Tropez 3-in-1 Bronzing Powder to contour (yep, St. Tropez bronzing powder)
- Glossier Cloud Paint cream blush in Dusk (for "a soft romantic look")
- Enlight by Danessa Myrics in Halo on cheekbones
on eyes
- Urban Decay Eye Primer
- Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil on top and bottom lash lines (applied in "a thick line, then feathered out... to create a soft, sultry smoke")
- Urban Decay Naked Smokey Palette ("blended black in the crease, then used a dark brown on top to soften the edges.")
- MAC Creme Liner applied in thin line on both lash lines and smudged with a Q-Tip
- House of Lashes Iconic Lashes with Duo Black Adhesive
- MAC Waterproof Mascara on lower lashes
- NYX Roll-On Eyeshadow in Salmon ("on the centre of eyes and in the inner corners of the eyes.")
- Damone Roberts Eyebrow Pencil in Minx ("highlighted the brow bone in Peach to keep brows clean.")
on lips
- MAC Lip Pencil in Cork
- Surratt Beauty Lip Luster in Pompadour Pink.
on the body
- St. Tropez One Night Only Finishing Gloss
- Danessa Myricks Enlight in Halo on collarbone and shoulders
For a second, let's address the difference in skintone between Taraji P's face, neck, arms and décolleté. I wonder if it's just a lighting thing on the red carpet, or a lighting fail during application? In the photo below from Ashunta Sheriff's Instagram feed, there is no difference in tone. *shrug*
What do you think? I'm mostly curious as to whether any of you has tried the Dermaflash tool and the regrowth you'll have experienced afterward. (With my luck, my peach fuzz would grow back in as dark stubble. *sigh*)
