WHAT'S THE MOST YOU'VE SPENT ON A MASCARA?

Drugstore or prestige, we've all tried a big, fat, lot of different mascaras. Rather than look at how much your wallet has suffered overall (thank God), let's look at the highest price you've paid for just one.

Lancome Grandiose Mascara

I'm so grateful that the Lipstick League has decided to ask what's the most you've ever paid for a mascara (and was it worth it)? If we had to think about how much we've spent in The Quest For The Best Mascara, that would mean M-A-T-H. #fourletterword

I have so many drugstore-mascara loves, and you know which is my favourite right now. But I once, years ago before I got into this writing-about-beauty-stuff business, splurged on a Lancôme Définicils mascara. And I hated it. Did nothing for my wimpy, wispy, short-short lashes and very rudely transferred itself to my lids too.

When I got into this writing-about-beauty-stuff business, back in 2000-something for Canadian Living magazine, I started to get PR samples to try; it carried on into this Beautygeeks gig. (Aside: I don't like talking about PR samples because it smacks of I-get-free-stuff-and-you-don't bragging, but it's something we have to do now... ugh.) As a result, I've tried several mascaras more expensive than that one. And what do I buy? Drugstore.

Except I have re-upped on the Lancôme Grandiôse "swan-neck" mascara ($36 CAD and $32 USD at sephora.com), which I reviewed here with a weird little video. Yes, I paid money for it because I love it, a lot. It is hella-expensive, though – more than $40 CAD after tax – so I'm not likely to spend that again when my Maybelline Lash Sensational Full Fan Effect is so much less bruising on my budget.

Aaand of course now writing about it makes me long for a new Lancôme Grandiose mascara... sheesh. Maybe if I can go one full month without taking an Uber, I'll deserve that treat. Or maybe a week without Uber?

EauMG is Currently Craving: N°5 L’EAU. Change can be good. And this new perfume is the perfect example. This update is a sheerer version, but hasn’t lost any of that velvety-ness that Victoria associates with classic N°5.
