Hello fellow polish fiends! It’s a lovely day to bombard you with swatches of the fairly new CND Creative Play Nail Polish! If you saw my first post on this stuff, you know there are 80 shades and uh… yeah. Guess who played in all 80! C’mon, guess!
For the sake of your retinas, I’ve decided to break the post into four and I’ll do them in alphabetical order – the same way CND Creative Play has arranged the handy chart in that first post. This post will include these:
The letters in brackets in the photo denote the shade finish and I’ll bang out quick notes on how many coats (and if the formula was troublesome), but I’m not doing comparisons. I know you’re devastated but really, comparisons for 80 shades? No way, man!
cnd creative play nail polish swatches
CND Creative Play A Lilac-y Story (above). Crème and two coats of an easy-to-use formula.
CND Creative Play Apricot in the Act (above). Crème. You’ll need to shake the crap out of it because the white settles in the bottom. There’s also a super-über-mega stealth micro-shimmer in here that’s barely visible to the naked eye. Two coats.
CND Creative Play Bananas For You (above). Crème, and three coats.
CND Creative Play Berried Secrets (above). Crème, and two coats to a gorgeous juicy crelly.
Bottle size (including base and top coat) is 0.46 fl oz. (13.6mL) which brings it in at the same size as Essie’s bottles, but a tiny bit shy of OPI’s 0.5 fl oz. (15mL).
CND Creative Play Berry Busy (above). Crème, two coats and perfect formula.
CND Berry Shocking (above). Crème, but I think it's two coats of more-crelly-than-crème love.
CND Black + Forth (above). Crème, and sadly not a OCW! (one coat wonder), but it’s opaque in two and nicely shiny.
So what do I think so far? I think it’s great – especially for a launch collection. Most of the time you get launches of 30 or 40 shades that only hit on standard core shades, but this launch has lots of different shades and lots of different finishes.
CND Creative Play Blush On You (above). Crème, two coats.
CND Creative Play Bridechilla (above). Transformer, two coats of pretty opalescent shimmer.
CND Creative Play Bronzestellation (above). Pearl. My notes here say two coats, and I drew a heart.
CND Creative Play Bubba Glam (above). Crème, two easy coats.
Then we should talk about the the polish-actual. Some of it is three coats, but for the most part, it’s two. Two is good. I like two.
CND Creative Play Clementine, Anytime (above). Crème. She was finicky and needed three coats.
CND Creative Play Coral Me Later (above). Crème, two coats.
CND Creative Play Crimson Like It Hot (above). Pearl, two coats to flaming crimson red. With a heart.
How's the application, you ask? Well, I found I had to flip the brush around to get full coverage in a single coat, but that’s not a big deal because I grew up flippin’ mah brush. The skinny brush splays nicely during application to get you a nice, clean line at the cuticle. Ya'll know I adore a nice clean line!
CND Creative Play Crushing It (above). Shimmer. Two coats of crelly shimmer that finishes almost like a metallic. I love blue shimmers in pink polishes. I do.
CND Creative Play Cue the Violets (above). Shimmer, two coats and the second coat is really where it’s at. A beautiful, epically staintastical hot violet. When I say staintastical, I mean it’ll get right into your nail plate in less than 10 minutes. Beware.
CND Creative Play Currantly Single (above). Crème, and OCW!! (One Coat Wonder!!!).
The saddest thing about Creative Play is that as of today (mid June 2016), it's only found at pro-stores. I know, I just broke your heart. Not to worry, friends! Word on the street is that CND is looking to partner with exactly the right retailer and hopefully soon, this will be available on-counter for regular nail nerds. In the meantime, you can score yours from around $5-$8/per on amazon.com. If you’ve got Prime, that’s even better ‘cause… free shipping!
CND Creative Play Cut to the Chase (above). Crème, two coats to dusty evergreen.
CND Creative Play Dazzleberry over Berry Shocking (above). You can use Dazzleberry (CND is calling this a micro glitter) alone or as a shimmery top coat over a similar shade to cut down on coats. Alone, you’re looking at 3 coats to get to what you see in the bottle.
CND Creative Play Drama Mama (above). Crème. That’s 2 coats of jelly. Pretty, pretty jelly.
And that’s the first 20 shades, friends! I’m gonna slap ‘em all into my Pinterest account under a whole new album called CND Creative Play Swatches. Here's a link to the 2nd of 4 posts with the next 20 shades. I hope you enjoyed this little slice of swatch-heaven and if you’ve got questions or just wanna converse, you know where I’m at!
