Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo Conditioner Head and Shoulders 2-in-1 Flow 30 Second Treatment

Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo/Conditioner; Head & Shoulders 2-in-1; Flow Intensity 30-Second Treatment

The super-nosy Lipstick League is still poking around in your bathroom with this all-too interested query: What shampoos and conditioners are in your shower right now? Because we know you have more than just one set!

My answer might be a bit of a surprise. Yes, I have more than one set – technically. Here's the lineup:

  • Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo
  • Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Conditioner
  • Head & Shoulders Men Old Spice 2-in-1
  • Flow Intensity 30-Second Treatment

Worth mentioning because leave-in conditioner straddles the conditioner/styler line (right?): Aveeno Active Naturals Positively Nourishing Conditioning Leave-In Treatment (down to its last three pumps-worth) and Revlon Professional Equave Detangling Conditioner (love).

I have to admit that I expected to love the Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil duo, but I don't. The surfactant agents overpower any oil elements in the shampoo, so much so that I find it kind of harsh. Frankly, there's nothing "cleansing oil" about it. So now I only use the Shu Cleansing Oil shampoo and conditioner when I've spent a few days re-applying mousse and sea-salt spray to revive my waves and feel the need for a good product-cleanse.

My usual go-to is absolutely Head & Shoulders 2-in-1. I've been a regular Head & Shoulders user for years. I can't help it that my scalp is allergic to Malassezia globosa poop! (Malassezia globosa is a bacteria that lives on everyone's scalp; it consumes sebum, and excretes waste that some of us react to with that flaking action we call dandruff. *moue*)

Right now I'm using the Old Spice version for men because I suspected it might have a tiny bit less conditioning than the versions for women. (According to Dr. Rolanda Johnson-Wilkerson, P&G’s Principal Beauty Scientist, that is true!) Sometimes I like a bit less conditioning because I get a nice wave/curl result when I layer my haircare... that is, use a lighter conditioner so I can use a leave-in before I add curl-enhancing mousse or gel.

Head & Shoulders Cooling Relief

Head & Shoulders Cooling Relief: this new version is on deck to move into my shower next.

And I know what some of you are thinking: a 2-in-1? Doesn't that just waste the conditioner ingredients? Not if you're using a P&G-developed 2-in-1. Those crazy-smart PhD types that work for Procter & Gamble figured out long ago how to create 2-in-1 molecules that land on the hair and scalp the right way. That is to say, they land in a way that allows the surfactants to cleanse before surfing the shower waves into the drain as the conditioning agents stay behind.

As for the Flow Intensity 30-Second Treatment, it's amazing for those times when I want to skip the leave-in conditioner step. I'll use it right after the Shu Cleansing Oil instead of the Shu conditioner, then throw in some mousse after my shower.
