Essie Spring 2016 is just around the corner and to take us into spring, Essie delivers these six shades inspired by Palm Beach, Florida.
essie spring 2016 swatches & review
Essie High Class Affair – Essie Spring 2016 (above). It’s a gentle apricot nude that gives you outstanding coverage in two coats. You’re going to be tempted to use one coat, but do two thinner ones for best level and opacity.
Essie Lounge Lover – Essie Spring 2016 (above). This shade is two simple coats to opaque. It’s lovely and peachy in pink. A perfect shade for spring.
Essie Sunshine State of Mind – Essie Spring 2016 (above). Oooh! What a pretty dusty-ish coral-leaning orange crème! It’s just muted enough to keep it on target for spring. Two coats to perfect.
Essie Pool Side Service – Essie Spring 2016 (above). Essie is calling this a cerulean blue and really, to me, it’s a dusty evergreen that’s nicely built as a transitional shade from winter to spring. Again, that’s two coats with no top coat. You’ll want to give this one a good shake when you get it to distribute the dark green pigment evenly for uniform colour.
Essie Off Tropic – Essie Spring 2016 (above). You’re wondering what this shade is doing here, right? Well, it’s apparently a lush grove green. M hm. A lush grove green for Winter or Holiday maybe. But hey, that might just be me. Regardless, the formula on this is spectacular – if you do it right, you can OCW! (one coat wonder) it! Yay! And look at that shine!
Essie Shades On – Essie Spring 2016 (above). Perhaps the most quintessential spring shade of the six, I adore this Shades On. Why? Because I have zero dupes for this perfectly creamy OCW! grape. That’s right, I said OCW! Amaze. The Essie formula of late is something of a marvel. I love the strides that have been made in the last few years – they’ve discovered a way to jam a tonne of pigment in there and get polish marvelously opaque (and very shiny) in fewer and fewer coats.

And now for the part you’ve all been hoping for… As always, these are the things I have that are closest. If you're wondering about other possible similars, just ask and if I have the sticks, I'll take the pics (unless they're not that close and then I'll just tell you).

Essie Sunshine State of Mind Comparison Swatches (above). Yes, I got lazy and didn’t bother to take these off the ring. I’m betting $5 you already have a 98% dupe for Sunshine State of Mind. If you don’t, you must be new to The World of Polish. If you’re new to The World of Polish, welcome to Beautygeeks! We hope you enjoy your stay!

Please note: I did have to blow these shots out with artificial light (ah, the joys of working day shifts) so the shades here might not match the mani swatches perfectly but you’ll get the idea of what dupes and what doesn’t. Fun how artificial light makes everything look different, huh?
Anyhow, that’s it for Essie Spring 2016. It’s an odd little collection of shades but I don’t mind so much because the formulas are all bang on – they really are. I’m just going to look at this as a transitional collection that’ll take me from the cold tail end of winter into the warmer, greener springy months of spring. Your thoughts? You know I wanna hear ‘em!
Oh! Essie Spring 2016 is slated to land on-counter all over the place on February 16, 2016. You’ll be able to get it at places like Amazon.com, Ulta.com, TradeSecrets.ca and a whack of other mass market retailers. While we wait, we can still get our digits into the Essie Retro Revival Collection and the Essie Winter 2015 Collection too. Here – have a handy slideshow to remind you what those shades are:
