DO YOU CHANGE YOUR SKINCARE FOR WINTER?

Do you change everything? Switch your face cream? Or add something new?

This week's Lipstick League subject connects nicely to my post about faking a good night's sleep with skincare when you're in your late 40s – it's all about intense hydration and binding it to the skin to create a rested glow. The question: how do you change your skincare ritual for winter? Do you go for a whole new routine? Do you change all your products? Just your face cream? Or do you slide new things in here and there?

I used to add a hydrating serum (that step quickly became a staple in all seasons) and switch to a more emollient moisturizer (i.e. one that says "dry skin" on the label). But last year – or was it the year before? – I fell hard for the Shiseido Ibuki Softening Concentrate ($30 at sephora.ca and $24 at sephora.com). Thicker than water but not quite a serum, the fluid slipped easily into my regimen between toner and hydrating serum, and boosted my hydration level beautifully. I switched my lighter moisturizer as well, from lotion to the Shiseido Ibuki Refining Moisturizer Enriched ($52 at sephora.ca and $45 at sephora.com).

This year I'll likely continue with Ibuki Softening Concentrate (or something similar that delivers instant results too), and, as usual, I'll use a more intense face cream. But I'll also occasionally switch from my usual micellar cleanser to a balm or oil formula, and stock up on my new mask favourite, the Too Cool for School Egg Cream Mask ($8 at sephora.ca and $6 at sephora.com), for at least once weekly use.

If you deal with winter weather, what will you do with your skincare?
