Two words: matte hydrating. *fist pump* Those are the best two words in a string of other nice words: Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation. The new shine-minimizing complexion perfector appeared backstage at World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto, at the makeup station that belongs to Maybelline lead makeup artist Grace Lee. We'll see it on shelves in early 2016, along with this new on-the-go must-have that's giving me grabby-hands.
UPDATE: See Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation in action in this video tutorial on a modern, expensive-looking smoky eye executed by the supremely talented amazing Grace Lee!

One of the worst things you can do with oily skin is attempt to dry it out in an effort to control shine. It leads to even more excess oil, and flaky, tight, uncomfortable slick-face that feels like there's a constant low-grade burn under the surface. That's because oily skin is not moisturized skin – it's just oily. Moisturized = moisture = water. (There's a real difference in how skin feels when you put oil on a super-dry patch, and when you put oil on a patch that was just wet then patted dry.) So when a brand puts oil control and water together, aka matte hydrating, it's a good thing.
From what I saw backstage at World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto last night (when I was shooting this video tutorial with Grace Lee!), Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation glides easily onto skin and gives the complexion a sheer, natural-looking soft, velvety finish as promised by the name. Shades so far include 2o Classic Ivory, 50 Creamy Natural, 60 Ivory Beige, 75 Natural Beige and 95 Coconut.
A cute little Dream Velvet applicator looks like a Beautyblender sponge cut in half and stuck on a handle, and I dig it. It seems easy to maneuver, and the pointed tip fits neatly into facial nooks and crannies.
I'll have a how-to video up soon featuring Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation; stay tuned! Update: the video is up now!
