COLOR CLUB OIL SLICK COLLECTION: MEGA-SWATCHIN'
color club oil slick swatches & review
Hello fellow polish fiends! I'm full of excitement today! You've heard about this Color Club Oil Slick Collection, yes? If you haven't, you need to. Know what else? You need to see it. I can help with that! I've made you lots of pictures (30+) and hopefully, it's enough to give you a good sense of what's inside these lovely little bottles of happy. Shall we?
Before we start, let me tell you that all seven bottles apply like buttah. Most are two coats to completely opaque and precise coverage. The brush/polish combination is stellar. No fighting, no cleanup, no fuss, no muss - just easy polishin' times to shifty, shifty manicures.
color club cash only swatches
I'll go in alphabetical order and start here with Color Club Cash Only (above). Do me a favour – if you're on an iPhone, turn your brightness up to 1/2 way. On my phone, that's the best way to see them because that's how I shot 'em. Also, make a note to look at the thumbnail in all the photos too – it'll show you how the shift looks in shadow.
I'm not going to talk about colour here because I don't have to. A photo is worth 1 bajillion words anyhow, right?
Unh. So much pretty. Not as shifty into the blue as you'd think but the shift that is there is 100% beauty. We're not talking duochrome anymore, friends –we're all up in multichrome land now. And check out my thumb! Don't forget to check the thumb!
I can't let a duo/multichrome pass me by without slapping it over my Revlon Black Magic. Ooooh... aaaaah. That's one coat of each, and quite frankly, I can't decide if I like it better straight up or over black. It's really stunning both ways, huh?
color club burnt out swatches
I know. You just fell in love. Hang on though – it gets better!
Bronze, gold, copper... gah!
Red, gold, copper, green... gah! Didya see the thumb?
I don't have words. It's like it's all kinds of lit up from the inside.
I can't even. I know you're looking at this and thinking " China Glaze Cabin Fever" and "Chanel Troublante." You're right. And also wrong. That's a whole 'nuther post, but it's comin'.
Black Magic undies, anyone?
And once more with undies for good measure. #gimmiethat.
color club don't kale my vibe swatches
This sort of duo has popped up a handful of times over the past couple years (OPI's Green on the Runway and Covergirl's Emerald Blaze). Similar, as in they're not the same.
Don't Kale My Vibe is a much brighter green and application is just two coats to opaque. To me, that makes it superior. The shift isn't crazy but it's there and it's enough to make you smile like a dork when you gaze down upon it.
With a pair of black undies, it's a lot more edgy and much more my speed. I love these kinds of greens over black.
color club ice breaker swatches
This Color Club Ice Breaker is kind of neato. The bottle shows like it'll be nice and duochromey but once it's out on the nail, the purple is really an über-micro flakie that's set into the blue polish. What it ends up giving you is a scattered sort of purple shift that doesn't really change much when you move into or out of the light.
Except for the purple reflections, I don't know that this is really a true duochrome. Maybe it is though and maybe it's just that I didn't catch the light right to capture it. That might have happened. I can't say for sure.
Over black undies, you figure the duo would pop, but it doesn't. But the purple flakies do give this shade a nice punch of special.
I shot it a lot to try to capture something I wished was there but I'm just not seeing it. Do I still like it? You betcha! I even love it!
color club it's raining men swatches
Oooh. You're looking at this and seeing a nice ballpoint-pen blue, right? With a touch of violet?
Or maybe it's just an inky blue that borders on navy? One that has a nice violet flash?
Yeah... it's that! Violet-blue! And so, so awesome!
Let's get a little closer so I can pop the purple for you, yes?
Or, I can take Color Club It's Raining Men, slap it over a single coat of black (above), and bring you back to that inky blue with flashes of purple.
Deep violet with flashes of blue? Seriously, can you believe how much beauty this is? Can you? I can't. I'm crushing on this so hard that I ain't got words.
color club sorry, not sorry swatches
Then there's this shimmery rose confection. Is it a duochrome or a multichrome? Nope. What it is is fantastically glimmery. When it's dry, it looks wet. Like melted, liquid rose gold.
It shows all metallic-like if you catch the light right (see the thumb), but mostly, it's really just a pretty, shimmery shade of brightly lit pinky gold.
Over black, nuthin' much happens. It just deepens the shade and brings it closer to a coppery rose. In my estimation, it's the most ho-hum of the Color Club Oil Slick Collection.
color club we'll never be royals swatches
I tell ya what, this Color Club We'll Never Be Royals (above) was hard to shoot to get all the shifts. There are more I didn't catch, and that's not for lack of trying. Let's just look and see what I did manage to catch!
Golly gee. I might be dumbstruck.
If we put We'll Never Be Royals (1 coat) over 1 coat of my Black Magic (above), we end up with my most favourite Color Club Oil Slick. This polish is pretty much everything I wanted it to be and more.
Perfection. For realz. One coat of black + one coat of We'll Never Be Royals = Perfection.
And that's the end. Now that you've gone blind looking at all those pictures, I think we should have a conversation about which shades you've fallen for and which ones you haven't. We should also talk about duo/multichromes in general and see what we all think about those. Should there be more of 'em out there, you think?
Oh! Lemme tell you where you can get these limited edition shades! In Canada (or the US), there's NailPolishCanada.com (I like their shipping prices, by the way). In the US, you can find lots more Color Club stuff (including the Oil Slick Collection) at ColorClub.com. At the time of writing, there was a 30% off sale at Colorclub.com – maybe it's still goin'! Or maybe not.
