In partnership with Sephora Canada • Canadians are a bit frustrated with Sephora Canada right now, and understandably so. Establishing a Canadian warehouse resulted in key changes for us, some of which are great – faster shipping, and a new, lower free-shipping minimum of $50 – and a few that are... less great. But before we get to how the retailer is addressing those concerns, know this: Sephora Canada's Daily Gift of Beauty has just begun. A Canada-only initiative that runs until next Friday, October 2nd, the promotion gives sephora.ca shoppers a chance to win a daily beauty prize of covetable gimme-thats from brands such as Urban Decay, Dior, Sephora Collection, Make Up For Ever, Kat von D, NARS and more.
All you've got to do is keep an eye on the SephoraCanada Facebook page to see what the prize of the day is, follow @sephoracanada on Instagram for teasers about the next day's Daily Gift, and enter to win each day via the link in the Instagram profile or Facebook page. (The sephora.ca landing page also features an entry gateway on the upper left side of the screen.) Good luck!
sephora addresses canadian shopper concerns
Now, about those issues that came up when I posted about sephora.ca's new lower free-shipping minimum. One of the most upsetting was that since Sephora had opened a warehouse in Ontario to facilitate faster and duty-free shipping, some great brands were suddenly no longer available to us. "My loves list is now full of items that say 'this item does not ship to Canada,'" said Kathryn in the post's comments section.
But those brands are coming back – just as soon as they get French on their labels. Now that Sephora is shipping within Canada, product packaging has to be bilingual. Here's what Sephora says:
While having local distribution enables us to consistently expand our brand and product assortment to make the Sephora experience even better for our clients in Canada, it does mean we are unable to sell select items on our site due to Canadian packaging guidelines and Health Canada restrictions.
If there are certain favourites that appear to be out of stock, try searching for the product by name again; in some cases we have updated the product item number. For other products that no longer appear on the site, we apologize that this is due to stricter packaging guidelines that we are required to adhere to by law in order to ship within Canada. Please continue to check back as these products may become available again in the future. For in store stock, if items have been available in your local store previously, they should still be there. For specific store stock questions, please call your local store.
We understand this change may be frustrating for some but please know that we made this change to benefit our Canada clients to ensure faster and easier shipping and returns as well as the elimination of duty charges.
Indeed, some of those brands (such as Drybar, Sunday Riley, Surratt Beauty and Perricone MD) are already available again, and new brands have debuted as well (yay, Laneige! Shu Uemura! Biotherm!). In terms of samples variety, undoubtedly the language requirements affect those too. As for promotions, the Daily Gift of Beauty is part of the retailer's determination to show that Sephora Loves Canada for real.
Does this help you feel the love a little more? Have you already noticed that some of the brands that went AWOL have returned? Also: Laneige!
