Whether in the trend spotlight or nudged to supporting cast, brows are an integral part of beauty currency. A modern shape and finish are as important as making sure they suit your features. What formulas do you trust to get the job done?

Does anyone else put "bad brows" at the top of a list of worst things ever that a makeup artist could do to you? (What, you don't have this list?) Anyone else defining my brows with makeup makes me hyperventilate inside. Not that I think I do the best job of my own brows – I really don't (lack of objectivity). But that's for another post. Today the Lipstick League merely wants to know: When it comes to brows, do you gravitate toward pencils, gels, or powders?

I prefer brow pens or brow markers, such as Stila Stay-All Day Waterproof Brow Color ($27 each at and $21 at, and Geisha Ink Liquid Eyebrow Liner ($29 at I have once-overtweezed now forever- thin, sparse brows, so building them up has to be done with care. It doesn't take much to make them look heavily artificial. I like a more natural look; rather than pencils, gels or powders, these brow pens in particular give me a finish closest to what I might have had if I'd put down those tweezers that one time 20 years ago. (Brow pen application clip here). More in another post soon. (Note: Geisha Ink has changed its brand name to Amaterasu.)

After the links, please tell us what your go-to formula is!
