Quo by Orly limited edition summer 2015 neons have landed and mostly, they make me smile really, really big.
Orly Summer 2015 Swatches
If you’re here in Canada and hit your local Shoppers Drug Mart, you’ll see these stunning neon shades and your jaw will drop. Then your #GrabbyHands will kick in. Then, before you know it, you’re at the checkout with these four bright bottles in your basket. But read on, fellow polish junkies…
Everything I’ll show you on mah shorties (I broke my middle nail real good a week or so ago so I chopped everything down) is two coats with no undies necessary. You’ll want to put a good top coat on there too so you can extend the life of your neons while also popping the bright factor.
Because I shoot using only natural light, I was forced to underexpose Jawbreaker so you could get a good sense of the neon-ness in that bottle. People say blurples are hard to shoot (and they really are) but a neon is equally as difficult. You get the idea here, yes?
It’s crazy good neon. Like, crazy good. The pigment, the level, and eye-popping brightness are superb. But all my brushes were… garbage. I know, right? Uneven brushes make me crazy. Because I don’t do cleanup, uneven brushes = uneven application = crappy photos = grrrrr.
So how then, did I manage a perfect application? Well, I took a pair of super-sharp, curved crafting scissors and trimmed the brush slowly and carefully. If you’re going this route, first squish the brush clean in a lint-free cotton pad or square of paper towel. Then trim the ragged parts off a little bit at a time.
Don’t try to lop the end of the brush off all at once or you’ll just end up with a lopsided brush. When you think you’re finished trimming and have achieved a decent straight edge, wipe your brush off again on your lint-free thingy (to get rid of any stray bitty-bits), then stick the brush back in your bottle, give it a good shake, and get to polishing those beautiful clean lines.
If a straight-edged brush is as important to you as it is to me, you'll want to take your time and make sure your edge is clean. Then paint away! These shades are so worth the time it takes to give your brushes a trim.
Gaaah! So much awesome eye-popping brightness!
I mentioned you'll end up semi-matte without top coat, right? I like a matte or semi-matte every once in a while. If today is not the day for matte, simply let the stuff dry for a couple minutes before top coating or you'll pull up the coats underneath.
Can't decide which neon to wear today? Me neither! Check out my mad skillz, yo! I do believe this is my first-ever self-painted, freehand, half 'n' half mani. I can't paint a straight line to save my life, but I don't care. I'm calling this mani a winner. (Maybe I should have used striping tape? Durrr.)
And that's it, homies! The four Quo by Orly Summer Neon shades. You want. I know you do.
Quo by Orly polishes ($10CAD) are available exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart.
