When life hands you Nonie Creme, the creator of Colour Prevails nail polish and makeup (and before that, founding creative director of Butter London nail lacquer), you ask a whole bunch of really, really important questions. That's cuz life is about way more than great nail polish (although that's important too).
It's a no-brainer to ask the easy questions. You know: Say, Nonie? Why a butterfly logo? Say, Nonie? Where do you see nail trends going? Say, Nonie? What do you do in your spare time? Easy questions are for pansies. Nonie Creme ain't no pansy.
nonie creme: the manigeek interview
ManiGeek: What are your thoughts on vegetables?
Nonie Creme: I'm one of those women who is phobic about carbs (except booze, duh), so veggies are a big part of my diet.
MG: How many pens do you figure you have on your desk at home?
NC: And by desk, I'm assuming you mean the shit heap that used to be called my dining table? Yeah, about 10 rolling around on there, hiding in the unpaid bill pile....
MG: Do you recollect the first bottle of nail polish you ever bought?
NC: I was a massive nail geek from birth. I was capable of extreme nail art by about 10, and my parents were useless, so I was allowed to grow my nails to absolutely inappropriate lengths. I remember a purple bottle of Princess Marcella Borghese. A memorable trip to the Principle's office in 5th grade was about my nail length and design...
MG: Would you rather zip-line or go for a hot air balloon ride?
NC: Zip-line, but only at gunpoint. I'm a huge risk-take in my personal life and business, but a total wimp with anything physical. Except motorcycles, but they don't count, right? Perfectly safe.
MG: What do you consider to be the weirdest thing in your purse?
NC: My Sriracha hot sauce key chain. I simply cannot eat food that is not spicy.
MG: What are your thoughts on housecleaning?
NC: House what-now?
MG: Do you polish with the butterfly handle on or off?
NC: On!!! My grip has never been more steady. Place pointer finger down on central groove and grip. Game Changer.
MG: What was breakfast?
NC: Meat!!! I'm a protein freak. I had leftover steak at 8am.
MG: Do you have a favourite Colour Prevails nail polish shade?
NC: No Regrets. Jet black. It's not the one I wear the most (that's Troublemaker), but it's my fave.
MG: Creative inspiration... is it hard to find?
NC: Not hard to find. I'm at my best when I'm in brainstorm mode. I have huge bursts of creativity around a certain topic or product and kind of purge myself all at once. Then I sit on my butt for the next week.
MG: Hairy knuckles... Tweeze? Wax? Shave? Leave?
NC: Mine are so gross. Oh, wait. Did you mean men or women? I have black hairy knuckles. I know. I had them lasered. It needs redoing but I bleach in between. I bleach my whole freaking head, arms, and hands. Don't believe me? Check my Instagram feed @NonieCreme.
MG: Is there a way you know of to get nail polish out of carpet?
NC: Nah. If you blot it while it's wet, it just spreads out. I leave it to dry and get a razor and try to shave it off. Mixed results.
MG: How many keys on your keyring?
NC: I'm a landlord as well as a beauty hustler. So, I walk around like a janitor with five million keys hooked to my belt loop. I like to know I can barge in on my tenants at any time. Can you imagine me being your landlord? It's ridiculous.
MG: How long until you're in Canada?
NC: Oh man, I'm dying to launch Canada. We're in talks with two front runners, so watch this space.
MG: And this final two-parter is important: How do you feel about cheese? Do you have a favourite?
NC: Cheese is not a food. Cheese is a religion. I will eat the stinkiest, toe-jammin'-est cheese you can find.
Seriously, what can you say about a woman who does a Q&A like this? She's the bee's knees. All responses are hers and are unedited. It's straight up Nonie. Amazeballz.
Oh! Hey! Friend Susan over at The Silver Nail just ran out and got some polishes too! She's done a great post that includes a fantastic shot of how to hold the butterfly handle when polishing. She finds it comfy and steady. When it comes to polishing, that can only be a good thing! She's also got a shade I don't have so you might wanna go have a peek at that too.

Big, huge, massive thanks to Nonie Creme for playing Q&A with me! xoxoxo.
