Remember when cupcakes used to be all about the cupcake? You know, before cupcakes became a mere carrier for seven pounds of frosting? Good times.
Other than overpowering the flavour of the cake, the current trend toward a mountain of frosting makes biting into a cupcake rather a messy endeavour. But the kids today have figured out how to eat a cupcake without getting icing up your nose. And it doesn't involve scraping the stuff off the top, although that's an option too.
Instead, as my 13-year-old niece E showed me this past weekend, you just remove the bottom of the cupcake and invert it on top of the icing (see above). Then bite into your cupcakesandwich without fear of suffocating. Bonus: the sandwich set-up seems to adjust the frosting/cake ratio for the better. #newsyoucanuse
Who's going to get cupcakes this weekend just to try this trick? You know, for research purposes?
