Clairol Nice'n Easy Root Touch-Up kits were a wallet-saving gift from the hair-colour gods when they first launched, weren't they? Finally you could deal with root regrowth at home and extend time between salon-colour visits by a week or two. But although those kits promise a fix in 10 minutes, you can't just brush the colour on and go, right? It's hair dye, so you've still gotta do a patch test (never skip that bit), then at least 48 hours later put on the plastic gloves, mix up the colour, apply to the roots at your part and around the face, set your timer for 10 minutes (15 for stubborn greys), wait, then rinse and blow-style.
If you're a last-minute type, that DIY-dye process will be tricky because it requires some advance planning. Can't do it if you've just noticed your roots on the way out the door, or you're at work and score an invitation to meet, say, Chris Evans, that very evening. But you could brush some powder on dry, styled hair real fast, right?
Available in six shades from platinum to black, the powder is so loaded with pigment that the blonde shades can cover even dark roots.
If you know from mineral powder makeup, you know it has a built-in sheen -- it translates as natural shine when you put it in hair.
The formula is wax-free, and dye-free; it won't get sticky or harden.
And the colour is supposed to stay put despite sweating or swimming until you shampoo.
All you have to do is choose the shade that best matches your dye job, and paint it with the enclosed brush on dry, already styled hair. And go.
Watch how easy the application is:
Color Wow, co-founded by John Frieda, by the way, launched in the US a couple of years ago. As of last May, Color Wow Root Cover Up wasn't available in Canada. But I just found it at the new Robert Dunne Salon (416-962-7430) just south of Yonge/St. Clair in Toronto. The Color Wow website salon-finder reveals a handful of other Canadian salons also carry it.
US beautygeeks, have any of you tried Color Wow Root Cover Up? Is it as good as it looks? Tell us everything!
