Ack! Beautygeeks, I've been meaning to show you the Brooke Shields for MAC Cosmetics collection I Instagrammed a little while back! Lemme rectify that right now. Plus, I'm curious about what you think about this particular collaboration. If you had a list of "Celebrities Who Will Do a Collection with MAC," would Brooke Shields have been on it?

If Brooke Shields can make me want to buy a new La-Z-Boy couch (she does), then she can exert even more influence when it comes to smaller-ticket items like makeup, especially if it's MAC. I kinda love her. But am I alone in thinking she's an unexpected collaborative choice for the cosmetics brand? MAC tends to align itself with edgier types -- Rihanna, Lorde, Marge Simpson. Brooke Shields is so unexpectedly lifestyle. But perhaps that's her appeal? In fact, to me her name on her collection says, "wearable." Yes?
Obviously Brooke Shields has worn MAC a gazillion times over the course of her career (I want to meet an entertainment-industry veteran who hasn't -- that's gotta be rare), so it's no surprise that she says she's a longtime fan. And apparently, she was "involved in every single step of the process," which is something I'd expect her (and every celebrity collaborator except maybe Marge Simpson) to say.
"I created a huge inspiration book filled with tear sheets, smudges, little drawings, inspirations of women in the past, colors and palettes," the actress said via press release about the Brooke Shields MAC collection. Actually, I like that kind of earnest approach. And I want to see that book. (Actually, the official collection photo, above, is laid out like an inspiration board, isn't it?)
"My book was filled with two polar opposite makeup moods -- one was more fresh and sheer and the other, more sultry and dramatic. That’s how we have this collection that embraces the duality -- a fresh version of and the sexier and stronger version of themselves." See? That's a totally lifestyle approach, a real-woman beauty philosophy that is, maybe for the first time clearly stamped on a MAC celebrity makeup collection.
The Brooke Shields MAC collection hits counters in October. And look at that eye shadow palette. It's the first celebrity-collection palette larger than a quad, and those shades all look entirely wearable, don't they? That Brooke Shields MAC Creme Colour Base duo looks flattering for all skintones, too. And I guess we can call this 40+ beauty, too, right? Brooke is fabulously 49.
Do you have thoughts? Did Brooke Shields surprise you as a MAC celebrity collaborator? Does she give the limited-edition collection a more lifestyle, every-woman appeal? Or middle-of-the-road? Er -- do you know who Brooke Shields is?
