Inspired by the 1940s, the Deborah Lippmann New York Marquee Collection for Fall 2014 is all kinds of satiny chrome. And the shade names are some of Deborah’s favourite song titles. Shall we have a look? Hmm?

a buncha words about application
I watched the little video that’s available for viewing on deborahlippmann.com and in it, Deborah says “you’re going to be tempted to apply one coat but please apply two – you know it will wear better.” What she maybe should have said is that you can't simply apply this over any regular basecoat or it'll look like crap.
In the comments, All Lacquered Up (Squeeee! Totally fan-girling!) actually asked how I made it look the way I did and pointed out that perhaps I should share my trick with all you lovely readers. She's smart like that! Uh, I used a top coat as a basecoat. It's how I roll with all the chromey stuff. I don't just use any old top coat either - I use the Nicole by OPI Quick Dry Topcoat. I don't know why that one works for this but it does.
I was tempted (as Deborah Lippmann says) to apply only one coat -- coverage in one coat is surprisingly amazeballz. Then I applied a second coat. The stuff goes on (over my topcoat used as a basecoat) like buttah! Don’t try to take your time, just put it on. Don’t mess around either – you need nice even strokes from cuticle to tip and be sure to cap the free edge on your first coat. Also, the Deborah Lippmann New York Marquee Fall 2014 collection formula is remarkably non-streaky. That makes me wicked happy ’cause I ain’t no fan of streaks, yo.
These satiny kinda chromey polishes seem to be popping up all over the place and while I like them, I don’t get outstanding wear from them, ever. Top coat over top of it all tends to dull the shine a little but that’s okay. They go on super-easily and come off even more easily, so to re-up on the same shade takes no time at all.
You gonna get some? If yes, they’ll be available in-store at Murale, and at Murale.ca ($22/15mL) starting September 2014. If you’re looking for something else Deborah Lippmann to get you through to September, we’ve got some nice swatches of the Deborah Lippmann 80’s Rewind collection ($20 each) -- you can get those at Murale.ca right right now.
By Reader Request: Comparison swatch Estee Lauder Smoked Chrome vs Deborah Lippmann I'll Take the A Train. So Lorraine, hope you can see that Smoked Chrome is a little less "chromey" and a little more "smokey" than the DL. DL is shinier and more silver. Both lovely though! You need gonna get both? :)
