God love Charlotte Tilbury and this "golden goddess" makeup she's done on her mum, Patsy. It's gorgeous and glowy and simple. My favourite detail: the shimmery eye shadow, which so many women refuse to wear past a certain age. "I've got crepey lids," they say, or "it emphasizes my wrinkles." I always want to say, "so what?" because shimmery eye shadow brightens up the eyes so beautifully, whatever your age. Look how pretty it is on Patsy, who is, as she says, "over 65."
60+ makeup: say yes to shimmery eye shadow
Makeup maven Charlotte Tilbury has painted a lot of famous faces: Gwyneth Paltrow, Sienna Miller, Naomi Watts, Jennifer Lopez, Penelope Cruz, Kristen Stewart, Cara Delevingne, Gisele, Kate Moss and more. She's worked with the world's top fashion and beauty magazines, and designers such as Tom Ford, Michael Kors, Stella McCartney and Dsquared2. I geeked out over her signature feline-flick how-to in this post. Here, in a 60+ makeup tutorial, she turns her talent to her mother, Patsy, and uses a palette of pale gold, bronze and deep golden brown.
Best line: "Too much sun is beauty suicide."
Although it's framed as a 60+ makeup tutorial, Tilbury calls this her golden-goddess look for all ages. "It's sort of 17 to 70," she says. "Using those modern pretty colours instantly makes you look younger," she adds.
Note the shimmery eye shadow, the reason for this post. I love a soft sheen on more mature eyes, wrinkles and all. (See how great shimmery eye shadow looks on Jane Fonda, here.)
So many women fret that shimmery eye shadow will emphasize wrinkly or crepey lids. Please stop. It's just another beauty fear, like the fear of bright lipstick. Let this Charlotte Tilbury 60+ makeup tutorial free you.
