Coral is a sunny, rich colour that gives bad weather the finger, don't you think? It's unfailingly cheerful and boldy sure of itself, without the power stamp that comes with red. And whether Ma Nature's in a bitchy mood or not, coral don't care. In fact, this striking new shade, Estee Lauder Defiant Coral Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick, says so right in the colour name.

Estee Lauder Defiant Coral Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick ($34 at Holt Renfrew, Hudson's Bay, Ogilvy and esteelauder.ca) is one of a new range of lipsticks launching next month. Called Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick, the collection features 20 intensely pigmented colours from neutral nude to vampy plum encased in handsome, weighty, magnetic-lid tubes. There's an old-school elegance and understated glamour in the packaging, actually -- it's that solid navy + gold thing. As for the lipstick formula, it contains time-release hyaluronic acid for long-lasting comfort. The pigment sticks around pretty well, too, if you don't disturb it with cup after cup of coffee, or maybe lunch.
I love a great colour and texture at a crazy inexpensive price as much as the next person. Hello Wet'n'Wild, Essence and Joe Fresh. But I also think owning a couple of more expensive lipsticks is necessary, and for more than just the esteem boost when you pull it from your purse. A creamy, beautifully pigmented lipstick like this one gives a girl an idea of how her bargains stack up, right?
Not that you need the justification. But when this collection comes out in March, you might need Estee Lauder Defiant Coral Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick. Or maybe Red Ego. Or perhaps Insolent Plum.
Do you? I haven't played much with Lauder lipsticks; have you?
