In January 2014, you’ll be able to get your fingers under the new Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood collection, which I've swatched for you within hours of the preview event (I knew you'd want to see ASAP). The 14-shade lineup was inspired by the Grammy-winning singer, and includes the first signature shade Nicole by OPI has ever designed for one of their poster celebs.
The Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood collection features a something-for-everyone combination of nudes, neutrals, colour and finishes from cream to go-crazy glitter. Let's have a closer look.
Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Love My Pups – a very pretty almost sheer pink.
Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Sing Like a Bee – I’ve put this frosted gold over top of Love My Pups to give it a little shimmer and sparkle. That’s one coat – it’s good.
Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Southern Charm – sadly this is one of those nudes that just doesn’t go well with my skin-tone. It has a little peach in it that matches me almost perfectly. Here’s hoping it doesn’t match you!
Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Color Me Country – I like this colour. It’s kind of a corally, dusty rose pink. Nicole says it’s a “soul-ful hot pink” but I say it isn’t. Nope.
Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Color Me Country – remember when I said that Southern Charm nude had a little peach in it? Sweet Daisy has loads of peach. It’s the first peach shade I’ve actually ever liked on myself. Ever.
Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Carnival Cotton Candy – cotton candy, bubble gum, sugar pink, whatever you want to call it, I like it. It’s just a great crème shade of pink.
Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Some Hearts – this shade right here is one of my top 3 of the collection. It’s bright, it’s almost coral and the finish is wicked shiny.
Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Goodbye Shoes – Ooooh… Olive grey. I love it.
Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Party Bus – I’ve put a coat of the sparkly Party Bus over three coats of Goodbye Shoes. Confetti glitter has never been better. Check out the flower bit on my index! How great is that?
Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Fisher Queen – how I love a deep dark mysterious eggplanty purple. It’s like Nicole by OPI knows me!
Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Lips are Dripping Honey – yep, I did nail art. I’m calling it nail art. Don’t try to take that away from me. More confetti glitter but this time in shades of gold.
Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Backstage Pass – a really beautiful rich mahogany shade that’s always hugely popular.
Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood American as Apple Pie – that right there is a solid poppy red. It’s classic. And that’s one coat. No lie. One coat. Amazeballz.
Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood Carrie’d Away – the signature shade. It was featured along with an abbreviated version of Carrie Underwood's signature on the series posters at the event. (C'mon, does no-one else see what we see when we look at that signature??)
I didn’t think I’d like Carrie'd Away. But I DO like it. In fact, it’s probably my favourite shade in the whole collection. It’s wicked sparkly gold and it’s not textured at all. It looks sandy but it isn’t. It goes on smashingly well and I’m thinking that I could probably see it from space. I dig it.
And just before I leave you, a word about the Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood polishes themselves. The consistency of the polishes is thin so everything I swatched needed three coats to get the opacity I prefer. Two coats just didn’t get the coverage or depth of color I’m partial to. The only things that went on in one coat were the two confetti coats, Sing Like a Bee, and surprisingly enough, American as Apple Pie.
The Nicole by OPI Carrie Underwood collection ($10.99/bottle) will be available in January 2014 at Shoppers Drug Mart, Target Canada, Walmart, Jean Coutu, London Drug and Loblaws. You can also hit Amazon.com.
Now that you’ve seen it all, what strikes your fancy? What will you put on your polish list for 2014?
