Personal Greenery: Eco-Friendlier Accessories and an Eco Party for the Earth
From kinder-to-the-planet production practices to renewable resources to recycling and reusing responsibly, there are many ways to make even just a small difference to the world's health by opting for a bag, shoes, necklace and more that take a little less from Mother Earth. (Left: a Cup Couture cup sleeve, one of my favourite waste-saver accessories.)
A Toronto-based outfit called Fashion Takes Action is helping to lead the greener way. The organization provides information, resources and support to the fashion industry as it makes increasingly enviro-responsible choices. If you're on board, get in on their Earth Day celebration, a fundraising event on April 24th to benefit Earth Day Canada and Fashion Takes Action's education and awareness programs.
The Fashion Takes Action Launch Party is kicking it green style this Friday at The Burroughs Building, 639 Queen Street West (at Bathurst). A $40-ticket (sorry, the $30-block is gone) gets you an open bar, live DJ entertainment including Brendan Canning from the Broken Social Scene, and an Eco-Designer Challenge, featuring Ryerson fashion students hustling to create an on-the-spot garment out of waste. Other eco-responsible moves include little waste, LED lighting, eco-bevvies such as Mill St. Organic beer, Plantatree Wine and 360 Eco Luxury Vodka, and not having bottled water. Get your ticket fast; a limited number will be available at the door for $50. Click here for more info.
We've all noticed Mama Earth's been having trouble keeping her spirits up of late. Maybe over time this sort of thing will cheer her up. Who doesn't love a eco-good accessory? Or a good-for-earth party?
