Roots has done scents before, but this Spring is offering a pair more in keeping with the company's enjoy-nature-enjoy-life philosophy. Their first eco-sense fragrances with Coty, Roots Source Bamboo and Roots Source Red Tea are formulated with corn-derived natural alcohol vs synthetic, and are free of animal ingredients, silicones, sulfates, phthalates and parabens. The simple boxes are made with 50% post-consumer waste (Coty marketing manager Michael McFadden says using 100% post-consumer waste would have required a much larger energy output), and printed with carbon-neutral printing. Produced using renewable energy, including Green-e certified wind power, the boxes are also certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) as having come from responsibly harvested or verified recycled sources.
The scents themselves are light, fruity florals. Airy and fresh, Bamboo contains bamboo extract, natch, and natural oils of lemon, rose petal and ylang-ylang. Red tea has a slightly warmer quality, with goji-berry extract, mango, rooibos tea, strawberry flower, musk and natural mandarin and patchouli oils.
The recyclable boxes and bottles (plastic components too) are enviro-friendly, a 30 mL size is purse-friendly, and the 30 mL $35 CAN pricing is wallet-friendly, too.
Let's be friends.
Roots Source fragrances are available in 30 mL and 50 mL sizes at drugstores and select Roots stores.
