Canadian beauty addicts unite! On the couch! The Great-White-North debut of "Blush: The Search for the Next Great Makeup Artist" is this Saturday January 10th at 9 pm ET/ 6pm PT on Star!.
Hosted by actor Vanessa Marcil, star of "Las Vegas," the six episodes put the spotlight on nine makeup artists hoping to prove they have the skill and qualities to own the title. Judges include In Style fashion director Hal Rubenstein, and celeb makeup artist (and spokesperson for Physician's Formula cosmetics) Joanna Schlip, who has worked with Eva Longoria, Christina Applegate and Scarlett Johansson. Makeup artist Charlie Green, who has worked with Angelina Jolie and Naomi Campbell, acts as advisor to the competitors.
I'm actually flip-flopping between "can't wait!" and "uh oh." I love makeup-artist talent, and I love watching them at work. I don't know, though, that I can handle watching them behave with typical reality-competition brattiness -- ACK.
Well, no matter. Despite occasional winces, I expect to be inspired and surely I'll pick up some techniques (hello, beautygeek). My writer pal and fellow "beauty nerd" Katherine Flemming (from whom I swiped "First Blush" to fit my F-is-for construct) actually gleaned 10 life lessons and shares them in her Katherine's Beauty Mark column on TVguide.ca. Brush up!
