Hello fellow nail nerds! I know you’ve been waiting very patiently for this OPI New Orleans 2016 post and I’ve finally managed to get all 12 bottles into my grubby little hands. First, swatches. Second, sticks!
opi new orleans swatches & review
OPI New Orleans is a pretty collection with a couple of beautifully vibrant crèmes but mostly, I don’t know that it’s particularly New Orleans-y. I figured there’d be some crazy glitters and blingy stuff, but nope – nuthin’. Let’s start here with...
OPI Take a Right on Bourbon – OPI New Orleans (above). The more I look at this shade, the more I like it. There’s a slight rosy tint to this almost-white gold. Yes, it’s marginally streaky in three coats but the streaks do dry down some. I’m betting if you have a full-sized bottle (I could only score a mini), you’ll have better control over your brush and might be able to get it on there with even less streaks than I did. Nonetheless, I quite like this shade – it’s delicately shifty.
OPI Let Me Bayou a Drink - OPI New Orleans (above). Pink. And not just any pink, but a stealth-shimmer pale baby pink. I managed to get this on there in two thick coats (three just seemed like too much work). You can maybe see slight visible nail lines and that’s okay with me.
OPI Let Me Bayou a Drink in direct sun (above). See? Stealth shimmer. What does it do? It lightens and brightens. Without it, this shade would be a super-boring crème instead of just being unremarkable.
OPI Humidi-Tea – OPI New Orleans (above). Again, that’s two generous coats to get to this shimmery peachy nude. There’s a buttload of orangey-red microshimmer stuffed into this formula and that’s what gives it an interesting speckled finish. It’s neat.
OPI Crawfishin’ For a Compliment – OPI New Orleans (above). This is one of those beautiful peachy creamy oranges that OPI is so good at pumping out every three collections or so. I was a little patchy in two coats so what you see up there is three. I wish I could wear these shades but ugh… the dreaded Crustacean Hands – or, more aptly, Crawfish Hands!
OPI Got Myself Into a Jam-Balaya – OPI New Orleans Collection (above). Oooh! Pretty corally peach! Sadly, this took me three coats and I don’t like to do three coats. In two coats it was still patchy so I had to go back again and do a third. Grrr. She’s pretty though, no question.
OPI Suzi Nails New Orleans – OPI New Orleans Collection (above). By now I’m about halfway through the swatchin’ of this collection of 12 bottles and here’s the thing: the formulas aren’t perfect. They’re all a little bit thin and have a tendency to be patchy in two coats. You’ll need to adjust your technique to get the stuff on in two. Be light with your brush pressure and gently “float” your coats on top of the nail. That eliminates those patchy streaks and lets the polish level for an even finish.
OPI Spare Me a French Quarter? – OPI New Orleans Collection (above). I adore this shade of plummy raspberry. That’s two very easy coats and my very first thought was “OPI Miami Beet.” Was I right? We’ll see. Later. Down there. After the swatches.
OPI I Manicure For Beads – OPI New Orleans Collection (above). Coverage with this shade is beautiful. It’s wickedly smooth and goes on like a dream in two coats. It’s a dusty grape crème that really turns my polish crank.
OPI I Manicure For Beads – OPI New Orleans Collection (above). Oh! And then the sun came out – still natural light but look at the difference! Light – it’s neat.
OPI Show Us Your Tips! – OPI New Orleans Collection (above). iSwoon. Yes, 3 coats. No, I don’t care. I could only get my hands on a mini for this shade so my cuticle lines and sidewalls aren’t as perfect as I’d like them to be but I don’t care because I have zero shades in The Archives like this. Shimmery and lilac periwinkle, it’s my absolute favourite of the 12 shades. It’s a new-to-me shade and I do so love a new-to-me shade. I’ma get me a bigger bottle. Maybe two.
OPI Rich Girls & Po-Boys – OPI New Orleans Collection (above). Golly. What a blue! That’s two coats to 100% opaque. The formula is a little on the thin side so use a light touch and don’t overload your brush. You like this blue. I can tell.
OPI I’m Sooo Swamped! – OPI New Orleans Collection (above). I love this mossy, grassy, borders-on-toxic green for spring. I just do. The formula is stupendous. One nice light coat, a minute of waiting, and another nice light coat gives you fantastic coverage and a really great shine.
OPI She’s a Bad Muffuletta! – OPI New Orleans Collection (above). Gah! Gorgeousness! What a stunning deeply coral bright crème! I don’t recollect seeing a shade like this from OPI in forever. You can almost One Coat Wonder it but don’t. You need the second coat to get rich saturation of colour. I’m stunned by this shade. If you were wearing it, I'd ogle your digits. For real. That’s how come I showed it to you last. You know, right before the sticks!

OPI Let Me Bayou a Drink comparison swatches (above). This one is a tricky one to do comparisons for because some things have the stealth shimmer and some don't. Essie Romper Room is a similar shade but there's zero shimmer. In my mind, that makes it totally different. It would seem I don't have anything dupetastical for this New Orleans pink. Do you?
It’s true, it’s an incomplete comparison post but you know what? These things take time and I sorta ran out of that on account of that whole work thing I have to go to. If you really need to know if something matches the rest of the stuff, holla and I’ll see what I can do.
