This Fall you can get nude like a red-carpet celebrity, or cover up with bold designer colour and over-the-top sparkle.
The L’Oreal Paris Collection Privée by Color Riche
The celebrity ladies of L'Oréal Paris have a new collection of nails+lips just in time for TIFF. In drugstores now, the range features four hues of neutral nail polish paired with co-ordinating nude-y lipsticks, one duo per spokeswoman. And when it comes to the polish, there are good things and not-as-good things.
The nail-polish good: The bottles are nice and small. The price is nice and small ($3.99 each). The coverage is good. The shine is good (we first discovered its excellent shine quality here). The colours are in line with Fall/Winter 2013 nail trends.
L'Oréal Paris Collection Privée by Freida nail polish ($3.99) and Frieda's Nude lipstick ($10.99). Here's what gorgeous Freida Pinto told Beautygeeks at TIFF 2011 about how she defines beauty.
L'Oréal Paris Collection Privée by Doutzen nail polish ($3.99) and Doutzen's Nude lipstick ($10.99).
L'Oréal Paris Collection Privée by JLo nail polish ($3.99) and JLo's Nude lipstick ($10.99).
L'Oréal Paris Collection Privée by Eva nail polish ($3.99) and Nude by Eva lipstick ($10.99). Beautygeeks spoke with the actress just before she hit the red carpet at Cannes 2013; here's what Eva Longoria told us about her favourite beauty items and what she carries in her clutch.
The nail-polish not-as-good: Some of the brushes have uneven bristles (makes that coveted painted-with-sheep streaky finish easier to achieve). The bare-shades collection is... uninspired (maybe because we prefer statement shades -- would anyone else like to see something more playful from these red-carpet regulars?).
Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Lacquer
Simple, sleek and super-duper shiny, it’s Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Lacquer ($22, sephora.ca). And I dig it. The lid comes off to reveal a corrugated handle that’s easy to grasp, and the bottle shape fits nicely between fingers so you can hold it easily when polishing. The shorter, wider bottle also means that brush should still pull up enough polish to give you good coverage even when it gets low from lots of use – smart, right?
Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Lacquer 120 Delphine ($22, sephora.ca) is a gorgeous Fall shade. Makes my fingers look quite sophisticated. Also makes me wish I had a cappuccino machine. I’ve done two coats here and haven’t used a topcoat – lookit that shine! It’s crazy.
Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Lacquer 118 Oui! ($22, sephora.ca) – yes, there’s an exclamation mark there so don’t leave it out - screams Marc Jacobs doesn’t it? Bright, playful and highly pigmented, again 2 coats is all you need. Perhaps a little more of a satin finish than the Delphine, it’s equally as stunning and will probably be the Marc Jacobs Enamoured Hi-Shine Lacquer shade that sells out fastest.
Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Lacquer 148 Glinda ($22, sephora.ca) is packed to the brim with sparkle. If you’re a glitter fan, this is for you. Two thin, even coats are almost blinding. I’m adding Glinda to my top five silvers right now.
So. Nudie hues or bold colour or crazy sparkle: what's your first choice?
