More makeup inspiration from Monday’s Met Ball 2013: DOs and DO-ish sexy-glam and classic red-lip glamour. Despite the image of Jennifer Morrison’s dinosaur hair here, I don’t really care whether these looks work with the event’s Punk: From Chaos to Couture theme, although it’s fun. So many of these looks will work IRL. You might have to ignore someone’s hair and crazy-eyed expression, though.
DO Amber Heard went for sexy glamour. Gleaming skin — luminizing fluid on cheekbones, down the centre of the nose, or perhaps mixed in with a semi-sheer foundation — sculpted cheeks, defined brows, lush lashes, softly dramatic eyeshadow (with eye-brightening pale liner along the waterlines) and a slick of red gloss. Sideswept tumbling curls finish the foxy look. Kind of Victoria’s Secret, isn’t it?
DO Miranda Kerr is abnormally gorgeous, as Gwyneth Paltrow says. Dewy skin, simply defined eyes and that deep glossy red lip — love, love that colour. I bet Miranda’s makeup took merely minutes.
DO Brooklyn Decker might be one of my favourites for this look — love the strawberry blonde on her (her brows, too), and that lip colour is brilliant. Also love the ear and hair studs. Does anyone else think she looks a bit like Nicole Kidman here?
DO Gwen Stefani rocks her signature liquid liner and striking orangey red lip. The natural brunette knows what works with her platinum blonde hair. Love that exaggerated flick and perfectly defined brows.
DO Uma Thurman looks fabulous. Great brows. Covetable earrings. Still, in that green Zac Posen gown + that winged liner and fake lashes, she calls to mind Poison Ivy in Batman, albeit a more sophisticated version.
DO Madonna clearly had herself some fun at the Met Ball. Although her lashes look like they could cut a b*tch, Madge still looks great. Love the glossy dark bobbed wig, her luminous skin and that red, red lip.
DO Jennifer Morrison wore the most gorgeous lipstick: it’s Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro #400, a bold berry matte stain, thinly outlined by nude lip liner. Her Dutch-braid faux-hawk reminds me of this recent stegosaurus-style ’do I actually love. See the resemblance?
DO-ish Miley Cyrus might not have realized she didn’t need to spike her hair — that cut is pretty punk without all that gel. And her hair (so distracting that it earns this a do-ish rating) is slightly too long for this look, right? But her makeup is classic, red-lip glamour. Plus a little crazy-eye, but that makes the look all hers.
DO-ish Jennifer Lawrence wins the entire world for this hugely entertaining awesomeness on the Met Ball red carpet. But her baby-face features in this makeup and netting make her look like a Toddlers & Tiaras contestant. In her case, less is definitely more. She has gorgeous skin; maybe the foundation could have been even more sheer, or more sparingly used? Her brows could have been softer. That swipe of crease colour needs a bit of blending. Love the liner; with a less made-up face, it would be aces.
Are you more about Amber Heard’s glowy glam, or the liquid-liner + rich red-lip look?
