Red Carpet Beauty: Lea Michele at The People’s Choice Awards 2013

lea-michele_makeup_purple mascara_people's-choice-awards-2013At last night’s People’s Choice Awards, Lea Michele, a celebrity face for L’Oreal Paris, wore coloured mascara with shimmery nude lips and a very braid-y ’do. I’m rather liking the purple lashes and liner against the fuschia of her dress. Simple, but punchy.

lea-michele_hair_people's-choice_2013This will seem odd, but I have to give props to my 11-year-old niece Erin. She’s expertly braided my hair just like this (Erin has mad skills for her age). I’m just not sure I love it on Lea with such an intricate lace + sequins dress, though — I’d have gone for a less textured hairstyle against that fabric. Love the delicate earrings!

Here’s the makeup breakdown from Melanie Inglessis herself, who’s been doing the star’s makeup for some time (Melanie also gave me the best false-lashes application tip ever):

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
L’Oreal Paris Magic Smooth Souffle Blush in Angelic

L’Oreal Paris Le Khol Pencil in So Plum
L’Oreal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Smoldering Plum
Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara in So Purple (no plans for availability in Canada; try Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash Mascara in Plum — or YSL Luxurious Mascara in Fascinating Violet — thanks for the tip, Jane)

Giorgio Armani Flash Lacquer Lipgloss in 526 (March for the US, April for Canada)

What do you think re: Lea’s makeup and hair? Yes and yes? Yes and no? No and no?

It’s yes & no for me. I love the makeup but you’re right, the hair with the lace seems a bit much. I also think it makes her look older.

You can also get a lovely purple mascara at the body shop for $18!! The applicator is one of my faves!

Thanks for that tip, Ashley!

(For anyone on the hunt, I don’t see a purple mascara on either the US or Canadian website, but The Body Shop sometimes carries stuff in-store that isn’t listed. That was the case with their cute holiday lip balm — only one shade of three was available online.)
