Hey, Nicki Minaj, guess what? Mariah’s collaborated with OPI now, too, for her own collection of nail polish — and it’s pretty cool. The eight-shade Mariah Carey by OPI lineup launches in January 2013, a year after the Nicki Minaj OPI set of polishes debuted. The breakdown includes a frosty shade, a creamy shade, a shimmer, a glitter-flakes polish, and four colours with a nifty “Liquid Sand” finish.
“It’s textured nail polish,” OPI executive VP and artistic director Suzi Weiss-Fischmann told a room full of Canadian beauty editors and bloggers this afternoon at the Trump Hotel in Toronto.
“You don’t have to do anything to it, you don’t have to add anything… this is actually how it comes out of the bottle. You don’t put a top coat on it because the matte look is what actually makes it unique [sic],” she said.
“It does take a little bit longer to dry, probably about eight minutes or so, and then you see how the texture comes to the surface.” The four OPI Liquid Sand shades are The Impossible (a sparkly matte fuchsia –sorry, looks more red here), Can’t Let Go (sparkly matte purple), Get Your Number (sparkly matte blue) and Stay the Night (matte black with red sparkles).
From the top, A Butterfly Moment (frosty tan nude), Sprung (shimmery copper), Pink Yet Lavender (pink glitter with lavender shimmer) and Anti-Bleak (deep, creamy purple — and my new obsession).
Look! The Impossible has star confetti in the glitter mix!
Anti-Bleak (sorry, lighting issues!).
The Mariah Carey by OPI collection ($10.95 per polish) will be in salons and spas in January.
What do you think? Can you wait until January? What shade catches your attention most?

Ooooh! Aaaaaah! Want all!! That sand finish is pretty freakin’ awesome! Can’t wait to get my nails in it.
I knew you’d like that stuff, You!
That looks pretty cool~
The time might increase the chances of dinging up the polish, but still fun to do.
on another note, I want Get Your Number, looks gorgeous!
It actually looks super-cool on, Rasilla! A longer drying time will be a challenge for some, and I’m not sure how long the finish lasts, but I love the look.
Get Your Number looks like a total dupe to Last Friday Night from the Katy Perry collection – what’s with that? I am not too much a fan of this collection from the photos and info so far – I might wait and buy a few from the Euro Centrale collection. But then I am not huge on glitters and grit and texture on my nails.
Can’t really tell from the photos, beachgal — the lighting and difference in our screen displays could be clouding any differences in nuance. I’m not into texture on my nails either, but I loved the finish on someone else at the preview. My favourite out of this collection is Anti-Bleak — LOVE.
I am so not an OPI fan, but I have to admit that they sure know how to make glitters!
I am totally in love with all the four glitters!
i love the new mariah carey collection. i have to buy all of them.
so, i’m a swiss lifestyle blogger and such a big OPI fan. I would be glad if i were permitted to use your pictures in a blogpost. Is is possible? Love, Nicole
Hi Nicole,
Thanks so much for wanting to use my images. You’re welcome to excerpt the post — you may use up to four photos, and the first paragraph if you wanted text — and link back if you think anyone will want to see any of the rest.
Thank you, as well, for asking — I appreciate that respect.
Best,
Janine
Hey Janine
Thank you for the fast answer. My blogpost is now online. Of course with all the backlinks (also to your euro centrale blogpost) and source. I hope that’s fine.
Many thanks again. Nicole
Thanks so much, Nicole, and you’re welcome :-)
Hi Janine
I love your photos and I’d love to use one of them for my current trends page. I’m selling products but don’t have a blog, so I’d be grateful to use one and post a link back to your page if you wouldn’t mind?
Kindest Regards
