F is for Forum: Want to ask a Celebrity Stylist About Your Hair Care?

by Janine on 20 April 2012 · 13 comments

Do you have any hair questions you’ve ever wanted to ask a celeb hair stylist? Or maybe you want to ask a scientist about ingredients in shampoo and conditioner?

On Monday I can get your questions answered by both kinds of experts. Here’s who they are:

Patrick Melville, NYC-based eco-conscious celebrity stylist. Worked with a heap of celebs including Zeta-Jones, Halle and Demi. Consultant on new hair-care line called Aveeno Active Naturals Pure Renewal – sulfate-free shampoo, conditioner and a 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner.

Dr. Kristine Schmalenberg, Ph.D, Staff Scientist, Research & Development for Johnson and Johnson, who worked on Aveeno’s sulfate-free hair-care formulas. She can tell you geeky ingredient things, and maybe explain how a shampoo can clean and condition at the same time.

If you want to ask any questions, just let me know in the comments!

What product would you use to define naturally curly hair, keep the flyaways at bay, but yet have NO crunch or leave any obvious product residue? I love Toni & Guy’s Twist It Balm but they’ve discontinued it, and haven’t found a suitable replacement.

My friend has silver gray, fine ,straight hair that is getting much thinner all the time.
Any suggestions on products to reduce thinning?
What to look for, what to avoid?
Using rolleres to get some waviness vs using brush blowdry?
What could add body? Is using an oil treatment before shampoo a good idea? Some folks say coconut oil or olive oil before shampoo adds body and shine to hair.
Thanks for your help.

Is it possible to get a perm that will make you have the volumized hair that you get when you use Velcro rollers?

Depends on your hair type and health, Astrid. You’ll need a consultation with a stylist.
