SPONSORED Beautygeeks has an appropriately geeky special program starting in a couple of weeks! Together with AVEENO® ACTIVE NATURALS®, over four weeks we’re giving you the opportunity to have your skincare question answered by noted dermatologist Dr. Paul Cohen!

If you’re familiar with AVEENO® ACTIVE NATURALS®, then you know it’s a skincare line often recommended by dermatologists, who trust it for its natural ingredients and soothing formulations.

As for Dr. Cohen, you’ve seen him on national shows such as Canada AM, eTalk Canada, ET Canada, and more, and read his expert advice in Canada’s top beauty and lifestyle magazines (including stories I’ve written) as well as in the news. A board-certified dermatologist based in Toronto, Dr. Cohen is also a member of the Canadian Dermatological Association and the Toronto Dermatological Society.

So, if you’re wondering how best to help your sensitive skin thrive in the dropping temperatures, or what soothing/brightening/moisturizing ingredients really work, or how to deal with irritated, winter-itchy skin, Dr. Cohen is the man.

Just email your question to imabeautygeek@gmail.com , and please include your contact information, such as a phone number and full mailing address. We’ll work with Dr. Cohen to have one question answered each week, starting at the end of January (that gives you lots of time to think of questions, right?).

And the bonus? If your question gets answered, you’ll win a selection of AVEENO® ACTIVE NATURALS® skincare worth more than $50!

I don’t gotta question, I just gots a whole lotta love for Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion. A whole lotta love. S’what we use at work and you KNOW we need the good stuff that absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave hands a greasy mess. S’my absolute fave. I have 3 large pump bottles in the home + a couple tubes – Aveeno in every room!

The Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion (the green label) is really nice to use. I keep one at my desk, so I don’t have dry itchy hands or greasy slippery hands on the keyboard. I’ve seen a physiotherapist use it exclusively when she worked on patients who needed massage.
Great stuff to use!

Too good an opportunity to pass up.
Having sailed through most of my life blemish free,I find now that I am a septuagenarian,my forehead and eyelids get very dry and itchy,so much that the upper half of my face appears swollen and some mornings I have difficulty opening my eyes. My GP prescribed 1% hydrocortisone which works but my Opthalmologist says I should not use it around my eyes since it may affect my glaucoma and suggested vaseline around the eyes. Vaseline does not help.
The dryness also seems to be around my hairline and I have developed dandruff which I did not suffer from before. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have a question.
The skin on my body is generally dry year round, but I find in the winter I’m exceptionally itchy and dry. almost to the point of being painful. My legs look like almost scaley (is that a word?,), my arms are always itchy and my skin flakes so much that sometimes my black sweaters and pants are white inside (I know, gross). I’m not sure what to look for in a body wash that will quench my skin. Also, what after shower moisturizer to use that will absorb quickly but still feel like it’s there at the end of the day.

I have dry patches on my knees that resemble exczema. I use a general body moisturizer but they don’t seem to get any better. Any suggestions?

Q. – I like to use lemon on my face to get rid of “dark spots”(not freckles) that have started to show up on my forehead. This is a remedy that my mother brought up. Does the acid in the lemon help or hurt my skin? Or is this an ‘Old Wives Tale’? I’d like to find a ‘natural’ way to get rid of spots and doesn’t harm my skin too much.

i work often with seniors and they really enjoy having hand massages done. What should i use that will be gentle and moisturizing and light on their frail hands? as well, many of them have arthritis, so is there an ointment that does it all? pain, and moisture?

Hi Winni,

The questions for Dr. Cohen had to be emailed by a certain date to be answered, I’m sorry.

But I’m wondering whether something like Weleda Arnica Oil might help? Arnica is really good for sore muscles, but for arthritis — I don’t know. Let me see what I can find out.

Hi Dr Cohen, I live in the tropics in Singapore, and I’ve suffered from eczema all my life – they have become really bad in the recent years, and I’ve recently boiled down my triggers to: dust, humidity, stress (three factors I can’t control) and wheat. I’ve stopped eating wheat, and my eczema has died down, although it resurfaces when I’m outdoors.

What I’m left with, are scars on the back of my joints, and my neck. What can I do to reduce these scars? I’m Indian, so my neck and the back of my joints look a completely different colour from my skin.
