The List: Proposed Locations of 105 Target Stores to Open in Canada in 2013

by Janine on 26 May 2011 · 31 comments

Don’t worry. Your province will likely get Target Canada stores. New Brunswick should get at least one, at McAllister Place in Saint John. Newfoundland and Labrador should get one in Corner Brook, and at Cabot Square in St. John’s. PEI, you should get at least one as well, at the Charlottetown Mall.

Here’s the list of 105 Canadian proposed sites, by province (thanks, Katherine, for that snappy idea!). Click twice to see it large.

The head office will be in Mississauga, ON, and a bunch more possible Target retail locations will be announced this September, says Tony Fisher, President, Target Canada. The “vast majority” of these and of the list above will become stores. Construction will start in Zellers locations that make the cut about six to nine months before they open.

Note: Target execs insist that they bought only the “leasehold rights” to up to 220 locations from Zellers, and that Zellers remains independent and open in many other locations that aren’t part of the real estate deal. As to any Zellers employees who lose their jobs if their stores close, Bryan Berg, Target Canada’s Senior VP of Stores, notes that Target Canada “will employ thousands of Canadians.” While he can’t say whether ex-Zellers staff will be afforded special consideration, he does expect they’ll have fair opportunities.

No word yet on the beauty brands crossing the border.

Hey, visits to my parents’ home just got more interesting! Target to Conestoga Mall in Waterloo! And to think I used to take full-day road trips from Toronto just to shop at Target…
Thanks for posting the details!

Thanks for posting this! I’ve just forwarded it to my coworkers who are huge Target fans, too.

So excited. And then you look and see what real estate they’re getting in Toronto. Wow. These will still be destination day trips because Zellers didn’t exactly have prime real estate on Bloor or at Yorkdale!
