Eye Bright: How to Wear Turquoise Eye Shadow (with an Emerald Dress)

by Janine on 5 May 2011 · 23 comments

I haven’t been able to get Ginnifer Goodwin’s Met Ball look out of my head since Monday night. (There was more gorgeousness that evening than at any of this year’s award shows so far — like everyone waited until now to bust out their best beauty work.) This is how you wear blue eyeshadow, and with an emerald dress, no less. And, like Tracy points out in the comments, it’s brilliant for prom.

To get the look, try Maybelline Fit Me Foundation, which gives skin a sheer finish if applied with a brush, or a medium-coverage finish if applied via pressing it onto skin with a makeup sponge. If you need more coverage, try Smashbox Camera Ready Full Coverage Foundation.

Prep the lid with a base shadow, such as M.A.C Eye Shadow in Vanilla or Vapour. (Use that same shadow to highlight brow bones, upper cheekbones and down the centre of your nose.) Next up, try Make Up For Ever Satiny Eye Shadow in Turquoise Blue, pressed over the lid with an eye shadow brush, and swept under the lower lashes. Apply dramatic false lashes such as Make Up For Ever #158, or similar lashes from Quo or Shu Uemura. Cut the strips in four to make them more manageable — see the demo here. Finish with black mascara on upper and lower lashes.

Define brows; try Smashbox Brow Tech Trio, which has a light and dark shade of powder for customized colour, plus brow wax if you need a little control. On cheeks, blend a sheer rosy shade such as Joe Fresh Cream Blush in Rose. On lips try Benefit’s new Ultra Shine Lip Shine in Patootie.

Think you’ll try Ginnifer’s makeup look anytime soon? Is this something you’d have thought of for a black-tie event? And if you see her new film Something Borrowed, co-starring Kate Hudson, will you think she looks more fabulous with this amazing short hair than that long bob with bangs?

How much do I love justjared.buzznet.com?

I gasped when I saw it, and couldn’t stop looking at the photos. Right now I want. to. be. Ginnifer Goodwin. And you’re so right, it’s a genius look for prom! I added it to the opening paragraph :-)

Complete girl crushing! Moment I saw it, I actually squealed lol. I think the false lashes are key for this look though. The lashes need to be dramatic and feathered like hers so that the blue almost looks like a glow from behind. Must find a random occasion to try this out, though I might just do this at home for fun ;)

Agreed re: the lashes! You can rock this for a Friday or Saturday night out, surely Vivian? I’ll need to see a twitpic, or you’ll have to comment and include a link, okay? Promise?

She’s so flawless. Her skin, her eyebrows, her makeup. And I love, love, love her rock star do. I emailed it to my hair stylist a few weeks back. Not sure I can pull it off!

She’s luminous in Something Borrowed, that’s for sure. That skin. Of course, her male co-stars are pretty lovely as well…

You’ve rocked edgy short hair before, Lindsay — I’m sure a version of this would look great on you! You’ll twitpic, right??
