I’m so chuffed for my friend and go-to nail expert Leeanne Colley, whose skill is featured in the holiday 2010 issue of glow magazine. Killer, right?
When Leeanne showed me this variation on the silver half-moon mani (which I can’t wait to try), I loved it right away because it suits my fairly small nail beds. We called this reverse-half-moon-at-the-base detail “lunar landing” — you could also call it a reverse of YSL’s hot gold-tipped mani of the season, but that’s more words. *grin*
Congratulations on a gorgeous editorial shoot, Leeanne — and props to glow beauty editor Tania Kwong on the feature too. Can’t wait to see the images on display at Tips!
The holiday issue of glow is on stands now.

That looks amazing. Janine I was so jealous of your nails when you came by yesterday. Leeanne is so talented. Congrats, on the feature, Leeanne!
Thanks Ali!
Thanks, Ali — and thanks, Leeanne, for my compliment-prompting mani!
Stunning work! Can’t wait to meet her next time I’m in Toronto. She did Elle Canada’s December cover reverse French tips that I also adore! I love manicures so much :)
Book with Leeanne as soon as you book your next T.O. jaunt, definitely! Bet you’ll spend days planning your mani… *grin*
Also, you’ll need to set aside some coffee time, so we can meet!
I will! Probably sometime in March :)
I love the teaser on the spread! And all the nails are HOT! I think it’s great that magazines are more often than not a) doing nail spreads and b) hiring manicurists for the editorials that for so many years was a forgotten detail! It is an art.
I hope your friend Leanne has room for me at Christmas when I’m in town – I want that black lace!!
Thanks for sharing!
AC
Hi Andrea!
I couldn’t agree with you more. Nails usually are forgotten but things are-a-changin’! The shoot was amazing. I am so honoured to have been a part of it. I wouldn’t have changed a thing!
Hope to see you over the holidays!
Janine,
You have such an amazing way with words. I was so touched when I read this. Thank you thank you thank you.

Pshaw, lady — we’re all so thrilled to see your work on display! xoxoxo
In the nail blog community your “lunar landing” is referred to as the ruffian manicure. Great color combo, love how the silver just pops. I’m digging her editorial version of it too! Those photos look fantastic, I love seeing nail gals get the credit they deserve :)
Hi Nicole,
Thanks for your comment! The ruffian manicure? Why the ruffian manicure?
From Ruffian’s F/W 10 show. I have a post here with video (nerd!):

Of course! Thanks for clearing that up for me Anya, and for the link! Looks amazing with matte — now I want to try that exact look.
Nicole is right, but there are many ways of doing the ruffian or moon manicure. We come up with our own names for the different type of “moon” manicures we offer just for fun!
Thanks for the comments about the Glow editorial shoot. I am so happy that manicurists are finally getting the credit they deserve. It helps that Janine is all over it! LOVE HER! She is amazing!
Oh, pshaw, Leeanne!
I loved the nail feature in glow magazine. Actually it was my fave feature in this issue. I also really liked the ombre nails as well!! They were gorgeouss.
A striking story, yes? I love how exciting nails are these days! Ten little vehicles of delight.
Janine! I LOVE YOUR NAILS!!! I seriously can’t stop staring at them. Gotta get me some of that!
Run to Tips, don’t walk! :-)
