F is for Ford: The Tom Ford Lipstick Diary

by Janine on 2 July 2010 · 13 comments

Not bright. A worthy departure, however, this nude with subdued shimmer, the first in a collection of twelve eagerly anticipated lipsticks finally available in Canada as of July 1st. This is Tom Ford Private Blend Lipstick in Vanilla Suede, $52.

On me the shade needs balancing with some kind of colour on the rest of my face so I don’t look dead, but I don’t care. It’s Tom Ford, beautifully crafted and showcased in a sumptous tube that demands its own glamorous dressing table and opening-night followspot. Conditioning ingredients include soybean seed extract, chamomile flower oil and Brazilian murumuru butter.

Note the special “F is for…” Friday format of this Lipstick Diary post. I just could not wait until Monday. (Surprisingly, Staff’s on board with the format break. Maybe I’ll let her try one of these when I’m done.)

Available exclusively at Holt Renfrew, 416.922.2333.

Not to mention, it’s like the yummiest smelling lipstick EVER! I like the pairing with the brighter eye.

Er — I’m not so much digging the scent, actually. It’s surprisingly dessert-sweet, not what I’d expected of this brand. I much prefer the passion-fruit scent of YSL lipstuff.

Thanks re: the liner! It was a little adventure for me. Sheesh, this lipstick-diary thing’s got me trying all sorts of new tricks!

Could you be foxier? Uh, no. And I love you in reds and pinks so this is out of left field. Then again, Tom had a hand in it so it had to be sexy!

Ha ha — if it’s foxy it’s ‘cuz it’s only half my face! I do have to admit this shade isn’t going to be part of my regular rotation. I might use it again if I’m doing another smoky eye, but the brighter stuff is taking up all the space in the little zippered case I carry around.

Are these available at Holt Renfrew all over Canada or just Toronto? THanks for all your great work!

Just Toronto at the Bloor St. store at the moment, Steph, but the line will eventually roll out to other Holt’s locations. Happily, I can confirm they’re available now via special order if you live outside Toronto; call 416.922.2333 and ask to speak with someone about Tom Ford Private Blend.

Thanks for the thanks!

Janine!
I highly reccomend Maybelline Colour Sensation Plaza Pink for you. I think it will look fab for 5$.

p.s. I haven’t put Coconut Oil on my face since that last incident, thanks for talking me through it :)

THAT is a great line of lipsticks; thanks for the suggestion!

Glad to hear it re: coconut oil, Elle — it is a tad heavy for oily/combo facial skin if you use it straight up. :-) Happy I could help!
