Physicians Formula Bamboo Wear refillable compact

Each year I look forward to seeing what Physicians Formula is going to do next. Organic Wear, with its natural-origins, paraben-free formulas and award-winning, innovative paper-based packaging, made a new eco-responsible footprint in the drugstore aisles. And this year's handsome Bamboo Wear Compact ($9.79) is another affordable winner.

A durable, refillable case, the stacked compact is made of "100% naturally sustainable bamboo" and crafted without toxic chemical processes -- this ain't no cosmetic equivalent to bamboo rayon, insists the company (yes, I asked). The double-compartment construction features a swing-sideways lid imprinted with soy-based ink, and opens to a mirrored well in which nestles an unbleached, chemical-free goat-hair brush with a bamboo handle. The top compartment swings sideways too, to reveal a magnetic base into which fits either a Physicians Formula Bamboo Wear Silk Bronzer or Silk Face Powder refill ($13.99 each), which comes in its own recyclable pan. Each paraben-free, 90-per-cent natural powder itself is infused with bamboo silk, which claims skin-conditioning benefits.

At the moment, according to reader Rasilla, the sold-separately compact has rebate stickers attached, as do the brands new mascaras. (Thanks R!)

Inspires a girl to spend an afternoon figuring out what other powder pans she can fit into this good-looking framework.
