Peter Philips, Global Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup, has made a bold move. “I would like to seduce women back into using lipstick again,” he says in the first video below. And to do it, he’s replaced the brand’s Rouge Hydrabase lipstick with Rouge Coco ($38), a new long-lasting moisturizing formula in a range of pretty hues and a luxe case made of lightweight metal rather than plastic.
Philips has said that he’s designed CHANEL Rouge Coco for the woman who is used to lipgloss, which is typically sheer or semi-sheer and comfortable on lips. “It’s a very relaxed lipstick line,” he says, below. Shades includes beautifully wearable rosy pinks, beiges, browns and reds, with names such as Mademoiselle, Camélia and Gabrielle to honour Coco Chanel. Offered application suggestions include applying colour to the lower lip only then pressing lips together for a soft effect, sweeping it over top and bottom lips for a polished finish, or intensifying the colour with a second application over the first. “Your whole attitude changes when you wear lipstick,” he says.
If only there were a perfect Rouge Coco to transform me and my attitude into the ethereal yet sensual Vanessa Paradis. *le sigh*

I splurged on Mademoiselle this week and I heart it! I want more!!
I feel your yearning, Michelle — there’s something about taking a Chanel lipstick out for a colour touch-up after coffee or lunch. It creates a lovely beauty moment, doesn’t it?
I’m a long time fan of Vanessa Paradis and her music (one of her French songs is near the end of the full edited version of my wedding video). Love how Chanel incorporated a bit of her singing into the commercial. A nice change compared to the usual “serious” tone from their past commercials.
Clearly they’re reaching for a youthful, flirty audience with Rouge Coco, yes? I mean, I would be youthful and flirty if I were Vanessa Paradis, certainly.
