The Write Stuff: Botanical Paperworks Handmade Plantable Paper Journals

by Janine on 21 December 2009 · 4 comments

I’ve fallen in love with a notebook. I’m sweet on a lovely string-closure softcover recycled-paper type from Botanical Paperworks, a Winnipeg-based company. The 150-page (lined), 4.75 x 8.5″ journal ($24) has a nubby wildflower-seeded cover almost too pretty to plant.

Botanical Paperworks specializes in earth-friendly paper products that, once covered with soil and watered regularly, burst into bloom. Greeting cards, bookmarks, tags, coasters, confetti and a calendar, too, are all delightfully designed to make love grow. Flower-seed species include snap dragons, poppies and black-eyed susans.

Staff’s helpfully pointed out that it might be a bit late to order a journal as a Christmas gift if such a thought had occurred. The business cards, however, she thinks are a brilliant idea that require only a pretty promise in a notecard wrapped up and beribboned. Clever girl — that’s called planting an idea.

This is so clever! I wonder how I would feel, however, if someone buried my business card in the dirt… :)

Okay, you made me laugh out loud at that, Sylvia! I’m now thinking about all the business cards I wish I could bury and have grow into pretty flowers…

Beautiful! I may have to order some business cards – would be appropriate in a way, as I work with children for a living.

I’m giving the idea some consideration, too, actually! I ran out of cards months ago, and the Staff’s been waaaay off the ball in refilling the Kinko’s order. Sheesh.
