Hot Lips: Maybelline New York ColorSensational Lipstick

I’ve been wearing lipstick again. Just a little — I can’t help it. It’s the colours, you see. Striking reds Very Cherry and Sweet Nectar; delicious pinks Bit of Berry and Pink Peony; alluring plums Mauve-ulous and Plum Paradise; and look-again neutrals Warm Me Up and Sugared Honey… so many from which to choose. And it’s the promise of smooth, easy-wear comfort, a moisturizing sheen and stay-true finish.

Once, years ago, when I’d not yet translated an inability to resist new makeup into a freelance sideline, I realized I had 30 gorgeous lipsticks I’d never worn. So I put into play a plan to wear them all in alphabetical order, each day a different hue around which I built the rest of the look. There are 48 rich shades of Maybelline New York ColorSensational Lipstick ($9.99 CAN each). They do rather tempt a girl.

A little promo campaign with my fellow StyleCollective.ca associates is the perfect excuse at least to try on one pretty colour. Here’s how things are so far

Psst — I’m wearing it right now.

Maybelline New York makeup is available at drugstores, mass retailers and Sears. Image courtesy of Maybelline New York.

I love these colours and the names are just so inviting…sugared honey? Um, okay. If you insist.

I agree, great names. And the image of Christy Turlington wearing that incredible red doesn’t hurt either — just makes me want to BE her by wearing a richly-hued lipstick!

The commercials for these make me want lipstick too. A lot. And I don’t ever wear no lipstick.

And lookit you over there on ChickLit with an amateur-sized makeup stash showing in that picture! What, they didn’t have a wider lens? You always look so pretty. I like that mauve-y colour – s’beautiful on you. Can I get ‘em at Shoppers?

You’re funny, You. *grin* I know, that was actually a fraction of a fraction of my kit, let alone of my actual stash — which has taken over my whole apartment. Don’t tell. Yes, at Shoppers (I’d forgotten to say). xo

I have added another of these lipsticks to my collection this week — it has the word ‘coffee’ in it but can’t remember exact name but FABULOUS. I want all the colours!

I love the idea of wearing lipsticks alphabettically — I have so many it’s insane but this could work!!

Crazy for Coffee, maybe?

I should mention that wearing my lipsticks alphabetically was easy for me then because they were already organized alphabetically in my makeup case! That was then…

I was totally impressed with these lipsticks when I opened them. Amazing colours and they look so invitingly creamy!

They look more expensive than they are, right? And they’re pretty comfortable to wear, I must say. I’m not having any dry-lips issues.

Yes they look much more expensive. They don’t look like they’d be drying in the least. And not that I’ve seen every shade, but I appreciate that of the ones I have, there’s NO shimmer. Just pure, creamy colour–what I also like in a nail polish.

Agree with Lesa – what made me sit up and take notice is that unlike many drugstore lipsticks, most of these ones don’t have shimmer or that weird iridescence. (I say most because there is a pink one that does… but it’s not OTT.) My favourite is the red (Are You Reddy? I think it’s called). And that mauve looked so pretty on you today, Janine! Almost like a lip stain.

Yes, I think that’s it — the lipsticks look simply like rich, creamy colour. And of course the packaging looks very Lancôme, no? Helps that they’re owned by the same company.

Thanks re: the pretty. Mauve-ulous works rather nicely as a blush, too, I discovered after dinner. I reapplied the lipstick, dabbed and smoothed it with a finger to give it that lip-stain finish, then a few minutes later decided I looked too pale. I’d already washed my hands since putting it on, so I dabbed a finger on my lips again and rubbed what transferred onto my cheeks. Perfect-o!

Smart putting your URL in brackets with your name, by the way. Like the other Michelle (Lipstick Rules)! I’m going to start doing that too, I think!

I love the new lipsticks but I am desperate to find out what plum color shade is on the picture above and in the commercial?

I think it’s supposed to be Plum Paradise, Samantha, but I’ll check and get back to you.

Turns out the plum shade in the picture above is Madison Mauve — is it the same shade that caught your attention in the commercial? (I haven’t seen the commercial in a while :-)
