Bet Norma Hill-Patton didn’t see the it coming either, the colossal success of the Twilight movie and legions of lovelorn fans looking to latch onto anything related to the Edward-Bella-and-now-Jacob saga. Oh sure, like many of us, although not involved in the first installment, she knew the moody teen vamp flick shot in flat lighting would be a hit and make stars of its restrainedly made-up, genetically blessed cast. But this?

The Bella/Edward hype was likely in full swing by the time Hill-Patton signed on to head up the makeup department for New Moon (the makeup in the first film was designed by Jeanne Van Phue). And at the moment, she’s probably the most talked-about movie makeup artist, if only because New Moon has frenzied fans chomping at the premiere bit. She’s certainly a big draw for the International Makeup Artist Trade Show (IMATS) in Toronto next weekend. Not that her resume thus far is anything to shake a fang at — it includes Catwoman, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, among others. Hill-Patton is also Halle Berry’s personal makeup artist, and names such as Reese Witherspoon, Matthew McConaughey and “True Blood’s” Anna Paquin appear on her celeb-faces list.

Although winning a pair of IMATS tickets (value $40 each) for one of next weekend’s trade-show days, November 21 or 22nd, won’t guarantee you’ll meet Hill-Patton, your chances are better if you choose the 22nd. She’s scheduled to talk makeup that day at 10:30 am, sign autographs from 11:45 am to 12:15 pm, then speak again at 1 pm on the looks she did for The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

If you’re not Twilight-crazed but are into makeup, there are lots of interesting exhibitors at the show. FACE Atelier (a favourite of delightful pro-artist pal Andrea Claire), CoverFX and BeautySoClean will be there), as well as speakers including formerly Toronto-based star beauty makeup artist Hung Vanngo, whose gorgeous covers for Fashion and Flare magazines have been joined by work for Allure, InStyle, Harpers Bazaar and Glamour (Saturday November 21, 4 pm); MAC Senior Artist Luc Bouchard, speaking on the Spring/Summer 2010 runway makeup trends (Sunday November 22, 11:45 am); and Toronto-based MAC Senior Artist Melissa Gibson, sharing expertise on using glitter, stencils, appliqués, airbrush and paints (Saturday November 21, 11:15 am). Click here for the full IMATS Toronto schedule.

To enter, you must be a Canada-based BeautyGeeks subscriber (click here to subscribe to daily BeautyGeeks updates if you haven’t already), and of course live in an area that makes getting to the CNE grounds fairly easy (unless you’re flush enough to fly in by helicopter. If you are, be my friend?). Send an email to imabeautygeek@gmail.com with IMATS in the subject line and your name, age, address and phone number in the body. Please also specify the day you’d like to attend, November 21st or 22nd. A winner will be chosen randomly at midnight on Thursday November 19th and notified shortly thereafter via e.mail.

I enjoyed it, despite having seen it at the Alliance Atlantis Beach location which foolishly had only one person on concessions for the crowds (I was in a hypoglycemic fog and couldn’t get anything appropriate beyond candy, which I couldn’t stomach). Think I may have to see it again, though. Torture, right? *grin*
