F is for Foolproof: Day Makeup via How-To Video on Chatelaine.com (and a rave for Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes Pencils)

I do love a clear makeup-instruction video, particularly when the demonstration is by a top Canadian pro artist. I’ve not had the pleasure of working with Michelle Rosen, but I’ve long been familiar with her excellent work. Here, in a Chatelaine.com video, she walks us through easy steps for a clean, pretty, everyday look.

Michelle’s eye liner application, one of my fave approaches actually, delivers soft, stay-put definition sans need for smudging (you’ll see). I’d use a waterproof pencil such as a GOSH Velvet Touch Waterproof type, or my new love (I still love you GOSH, but I like options), Make Up Forever’s fantastic Aqua Eyes ($19 CAN/$17 US), a creamy combo of super-waterproof shadow and liner. Confession: Glow Magazine’s beauty editor Jill Dunn, whose lids are oilier than mine (sorry for outing you, Jill!), has been raving about Make Up Forever’s pencils for ages. I tried them only recently — and have been raving to folks about them, too, ever since.

I love this look for pretty much anyone. It’s a classic, youthful look, and but for the foundation brush, I can do it in the back of a moving cab. *grin*

Visit Chatelaine.com for more stuff, Shoppers Drug Mart for GOSH, and your local Sephora store for Make Up Forever.

Her work is amazing. Maybe one day I’ll get to work with her. I love that you shared admiration here!

Michelle Rosen is the BEST – I loved how she did my hair for the Whip It premiere.

Also like that she did blush on the apples of the cheeks here. So many makeup artists tell you not to do that, but I’ve always thought it looked super-pretty.

Your hair looked gorgeous that night, I remember! I’ve always loved the apple-of-the-cheek blush application too — youthful and sweet.

Fortunately & unfortunately you share the same makeup dilemmas as me, including the oily eyelids, so you could write about product suggestions for ppl like us! I recently tried your previous blog about one of the GOSH liquid eyeliners and it seems to work…no smudgies by the end of the day! I just have to correct any mistakes quickly before it dries up (or dab a little makeup removal with a Q-tip). I’ll have to try your pencil liner suggestions some time too!

GOSH liquid liner is crazy with the stay-put power! The pencils are great, too, as are Make Up Forever’s. Topped with a bit of matching powder eye shadow, they should last ages even on oily lids. Prepping with a lid primer will help as well. Lemme know how it goes!
